After weeks of teasers and updates, the Xiaomi 17 series is finally here as the world's first Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 smartphones. All three smartphones in the lineup are equipped with the same flagship-grade chipset, and the Pro models even bring a new secondary display to the mix. Here is everything that's new with the Xiaomi 17, Xiaomi 17 Pro and the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max.

Xiaomi 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max come with a Magic Back Screen

Kicking things off with the Xiaomi 17 Pro and the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max, the most unique and standout aspect of both phones is the new Magic Back Screen at the back. It is essentially a secondary display which entirely makes up the expanded camera deco, giving an edge-to-edge feel.

Using the screen at the back, the smartphones will be able to perform a bunch of actions like display customizable watch faces, AI wallpapers, virtual pets, dynamic information notifications, sticky notes, and much more. Xiaomi claims that the "Dynamic Back Display enhances lifestyle and efficiency", while allowing users to perform "rich actions based on different scenarios".

Now, while the Magic Back Screen on the Xiaomi 17 Pro models are unique, it definitely is not the only talking point of the devices. That is because these are the first smartphones in the world to draw their power from the newly launched Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 flagship processor from Qualcomm. Users will be able to pair the chipset with up to 16 GB of LPDDR5x RAM and up to 1 TB of UFS 4.1 storage.

Moreover, the SoC works in tandem with a new Stereoscopic Annular Cold Pump Cooling System which is said to be almost 37% more efficient than convention vapour chamber cooling modules. With a 4,637 mm² heat dissipation coverage, Xiaomi claims that the 17 Pro and the 17 Pro Max will be able to maintain an optimal temperature of 40.4°C even at the most demanding of the workloads.

Xiaomi 17 is a compact powerhouse with Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5

Now, coming to the standard Xiaomi 17, it is the compact offering of the lot. However, it's not lacking in terms of performance. Just like the Pro siblings, here as well, the flagship-grade Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 is powering the smartphone. It features a 4497 mm² heat dissipation area which is claimed to be 31.9% more efficient when compared to the Xiaomi 15.

Moreover, just like the 17 Pro models, the standard Xiaomi 17 also ships with the latest HyperOS 3 update based on Android 16. It features all the bells and whistles of the new OS skin, like the updated iconography, Xiaomi Super Island, XiaoAI and Xiaomi interconnectivity features.
