Summary

  • iPhone 17 is expected to arrive with a 3,692mAh battery, while the iPhone 17 Air may get a 3,149mAh unit.
  • Its Pro model may get the biggest battery bump at 4,252mAh, while the 17 Pro Max could boast 5,088mAh battery, the largest on iPhones.
  • The charging speeds on the Pro models could be bumped to 35W, while all models may feature 25W Qi2.2 wireless charging.

The iPhone 17 series is almost here, and one of the most important things buyers want to know is how big the batteries are. Apple doesn’t list battery capacities on its website, which often makes it difficult to judge endurance before reviews. To make it easier, here's an iPhone 17 series battery guide with the expected battery sizes and charging details for every iPhone 17 model, including the iPhone 17 Air.

iPhone 17 battery sizes (Expected)

The iPhone 17 series will consist of four models this year – iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Air, iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max. The battery capacity on the iPhone 17, as per the latest leak, could be increased to up to 3,692mAh, while the iPhone 17 Pro could get the largest bump in the series to a 4,252mAh cell.

The iPhone 17 Air may feature a smaller 3,149mAh battery, while the iPhone 17 Pro Max could receive a huge upgrade in battery capacity to up to 5,088mAh. The aforementioned ratings are expected to be on the e-SIM only variants of the four models; the SIM card versions may feature smaller batteries as listed below.

Model
Battery size (Leaked)
Charging speeds
iPhone 17
3,692mAh (both SIM and e-SIM only)
15W wired | 25W wireless via Qi2.2
iPhone 17 Air
3,149mAh (with SIM card), 3,036mAh (e-SIM only)
15W wired | 25W wireless via Qi2.2
iPhone 17 Pro
4,252mAh (with SIM card), 3,988mAh (e-SIM only)
35W wired | 25W wireless via Qi2.2
iPhone 17 Pro Max
5,088mAh (with SIM card), 4,823mAh (e-SIM only)
35W wired | 25W wireless via Qi2.2

iPhone 17 series may support Qi2.2 standard via MagSafe. While the wired charging speeds on the iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Air are expected to remain the same at 15W. The wired charging speeds could be bumped to 35W (from 30W last year) on the iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max.

All the devices in the series will still be capable of charging at 25W wirelessly. Apple recently bumped the wireless charging speeds on the iPhone 16 series to 25W in iOS 26 Beta. The 16 series could soon get Qi2.2 certified as well.

The larger batteries in the iPhone 17 series, combined with a more efficient A19 chip, should result in a much better battery life across all the models. Paired with the upgraded 120Hz LTPO ProMotion display, which could scale all the way down to 1Hz, the standard iPhone 17 could deliver noticeable battery life improvements over its predecessor.

How long should the iPhone 17 series battery last?

We don't have any concrete information about the endurance of any model in the iPhone 17 series. But Apple claimed these following ratings for the iPhone 16 series last year:

  • iPhone 16: 22 hours video playback, 18 hours video streaming, 80 hours audio streaming
  • iPhone 16 Pro: 27 hours video playback, 22 hours video streaming, 85 hours audio streaming
  • iPhone 16 Pro Max: 33 hours video playback, 29 hours video streaming, and 105 hours audio streaming

And based on these values, here's what we can speculate about the iPhone 17 series:

Model
Video Playback (Expected)
Video Streaming (Expected)
Audio Streaming (Expected)
iPhone 17
23 hours
19 hours
81 hours
iPhone 17 Air
20 hours
16 hours
75 hours
iPhone 17 Pro
28 hours
22 hours
85 hours
iPhone 17 Pro Max
36 hours
32 hours
110 hours

The battery life on iPhone 17 should more or less remain the same as the iPhone 16. The iPhone 17 Air may run out of juice sooner than the standard iPhone 17 due to its smaller battery. The iPhone 17 Pro may last longer, while the iPhone 17 Pro Max would reign over all other iPhones with the best battery life.

As for the charging speeds, here's a rundown on how fast every iPhone could charge from 0-50% with 20W wired charging or at 30W paired with MagSafe:

  • iPhone 17: 30 minutes
  • iPhone 17 Air: 20 minutes
  • iPhone 17 Pro: 20 minutes
  • iPhone 17 Pro Max: 30 minutes

And that's everything you need to know about the battery sizes in the iPhone 17 series. As obvious as it is, if you need to best battery life, the iPhone 17 Pro Max with a bigger 5,088mAh battery should be your go-to pick.

The standard iPhone 17 should be your pick over the iPhone 17 Air, unless slimness is of utmost priority to you. The larger battery capacity could be a good reason to upgrade to the iPhone 17 Pro from the iPhone 16 Pro. However, in the iPhone 17's case, the difference is negligible compared to the iPhone 16.
