Google appears to be working on a new AI-powered lock screen customisation feature for Pixel phones. The feature, spotted in the recently released Android Canary 2608 update, could let users create custom lock screen clock styles using AI instead of choosing from Google's existing presets.

The feature was first spotted by tech publication Android Authority, which reports that users will be able to generate unique clock styles using text prompts on Pixel phones.

Google may also let users upload an image as a visual reference, while a dedicated "Ideas" button could provide AI-generated suggestions to help users get started.

This could mean that users will be able to feed particular styles and aesthetics to the AI-powered tool to unlock deeper customisation levels. If true, this will add a meaningful layer of customisation to the otherwise stock Android 17 experience.

Pixel phones already allow lock screen live effects on Android 16 and above. However, the lock screen clock was always somewhat unnoticed. Google also allows users to change themes and icons on Pixel phones using AI. Hence, AI-generated lock screen clocks will be a natural extension of the current AI-backed customisation that Google already offers.

That said, the AI-generated Lock Screen clocks feature is not yet live. The publication tried to get the feature working but was greeted with a "Service not connected" error prompt instead. So, there is a chance that the new feature will make its way through Android 17 QPR releases in the future.
