Apple's Foldable iPhone Ultra Is Winning over Early Testers

Apple could launch the iPhone Ultra in September 2026, but a few early testers have already been testing the foldable. Bloomberg's Mark Gurman said in his recent Power On Newsletter that the iPhone Ultra testers are walking away thoroughly impressed with the overall package.

The primary praise seems to revolve around how pocketable the iPhone Ultra is. Testers have reportedly also praised the durability of the phone's folding mechanism, although we're unsure how they arrived at that conclusion, considering the iPhone Ultra reportedly ran into hinge design issues.

For those unaware, the smartphone is expected to feature a book-style form factor similar to that of the recently launched Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8. The front display is expected to be a 5.5-inch unit, whereas the internal display could be a 7.8-inch unit leveraging iPad-style app layouts for better multitasking.

Beyond being a productivity workhorse, Gurman says the iPhone Ultra could fall short in the camera department due to the lack of a telephoto lens. He says the phone's extravagant price could make the Telephoto's absence unjustifiable and could affect the phone's final sales figures.

That said, to achieve a seemingly slim profile of 4.5 mm when unfolded, Apple could make some sacrifices. One of them is the omission of an in-display Face ID in favour of a traditional Touch ID sensor integrated into the power button.

While that's all the new report reveals, previous information has pointed toward the phone being powered by Apple's latest A20 Pro processor based on TSMC's 2nm process. We've also seen the phone's chassis leak from various iPhone Ultra supply chain leaks, giving us a detailed overview of what the phone could look like.

All things considered, despite the camera trade-off, the positive opinions of early testers alongside the hype suggest the iPhone Ultra could succeed in attracting customers. However, its expected price of $2,000 (approximately Rs 1,91,000) or higher would make it quite inaccessible to the general audience.
