Apple’s smart home hub has been one of its worst-kept secrets this year. The Cupertino brand is expected to unveil new smart home products at its upcoming “Welcome home” event tomorrow. Now, a new report has expanded on what one of the products will be called, its colours and availability timeline.
Apple's Home Hub Will Reportedly Be Called HomeView
According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, Apple’s smart home hub will be called HomeView. The name makes sense, since the device is designed to be seen from across the room, like a small smart display for your home.
The HomeView will reportedly have a floating display sitting on top of a speaker base. Gurman says the design is similar to the classic iMac G4, the 2002 Mac with a screen on an arm above a round base.
Apple HomeView is expected to launch in four colour options: Space Grey, Silver, Starlight and Pink. The brand is also said to offer a wall-mount version with a square base. That one is said to come only in Silver and Space Grey colourways.
In terms of specs, Gurman notes that Apple HomeView will be powered by the Apple A18 chipset, the same one found inside the iPhone 16. Aside from that, it is expected to bring the following features:
- Voice first: Users will mainly be able to control HomeView with their voice, and Siri AI will be at the centre of the experience.
- Easy to see: The display is said to be designed so that users can see information from across the room.
- Apple apps only: Apple HomeView will run Apple’s only own apps, but there won't be any App Store.
- iPhone widgets: HomeView may be able to show widgets from third-party iPhone apps on the HomeView’s screen.
All in all, HomeView will be a direct competitor to the Google Nest Hub and Amazon Echo Show.
