After months of leaks and teasers, the iPhone Air is now finally official. It has launched alongside the iPhone 17 series and sits right between the standard iPhone 17 and the iPhone 17 Pro. This brings Apple's first notable design and form factor shift in years. Here is a detailed breakdown of its specifications, pricing and availability details.
Apple iPhone Air Specifications and Features
Starting with the design, the iPhone Air takes a completely different route than the other iPhone 17 series models. It is slim, lightweight and visually striking. At just 5.6mm thickness, this is the thinnest iPhone to date. It is also the lightest iPhone that Apple has ever made, at 145 grams.

Although the device is slim, it remains durable. The iPhone Air is the only model this year with a titanium-aluminium frame. This makes sense since the device is so thin that it could easily be prone to bending. A mix of titanium and aluminium will help the device maintain its structural integrity while looking sleek.

It is further complemented with a glass back panel and a horizontal camera bar with a single primary camera. Even though the overall footprint of the smartphone is on the slimmer side, it does still feature a notably thick camera bar.
The device is a half-glass half half-aluminium sandwich which has managed to retain the Action Button and the Camera Control button despite being this incredibly slim. It is so incredibly thin that it has just managed to equip the USB-C port at the bottom.

At the front, the "Air" features a 6.5-inch 120 Hz Super Retina XDR LTPO OLED display with a 1260 x 2736 resolution and 3,000 nits peak brightness. This brings the display on the Air model on par with the iPhone 17 Pros.
The panel is further protected by the Apple's Ceramic Shield 2. Apple claims this new glass protection features a specially "designed coating for 3x better scratch resistance and improved anti-reflection to reduce glare".

At the helm, the device is equipped with the same latest A19 Pro processor as that of the iPhone 17 Pro models. Apple has added a minimum of 12 GB RAM to the Air with up to 512 GB of storage.
It ships with the latest iOS 26 update and brings several Apple Intelligence features like Genmoji, Imagen, AI Writing Tools and more.

Now, since this is an extremely thin device, it is understandable that some of the components of the smartphone will have to be trimmed down to achieve this feat. For instance, due to limited space, the Air features only a single 48 MP main camera. It follows the iPhone 16e route with the single camera design.
This lens limitation will also mean that the smartphone will not be able to capture spatial video or spatial photos like the iPhone 17 Pro and the iPhone 17 Pro Max. However, it will still be able to record 4K footage at 60 FPS. Additionally, the device can use the same camera to capture 2x telephoto shots.

That said, the iPhone Air is getting an upgraded 18MP selfie camera treatment, in contrast to the iPhone 16 lineup, which only featured a 12 MP selfie camera.
Apart from an improvement in image quality and edge detection, this new sensor is also said to allow for more cropping without loss of quality and support Centre Stage. It will also be able to record 4K @ 60 FPS OIS-backed videos.

Aside from the main camera, the obvious trade-off that the iPhone Air brings is in the battery department. The iPhone Air features the smallest battery of the lot. Apple claims that users will be able to go a full day without charging.
A big part of this claimed battery life could be attributed to the efficient Apple C1X 5G modem, which the iPhone Air packs. Apple claims that the new "C1X is 2x faster. Even faster than the modem in iPhone 16 Pro, and uses 30% less energy".

In terms of charging, Apple has equipped the 17 Air with 35W USB-C charging. And just like the other members in the family, here as well, there is support for 25W Qi 2.2 MagSafe charging.
Lastly, the iPhone Air is e-SIM only this time. Apple has been unable to add a SIM tray to the phone thanks to its lack of thickness. It features Wi-Fi 7 support, Bluetooth 6, Face ID, GPS, NFC and more.
