Summary

  • iOS 27.3 beta brings Apple's Reachability feature to the iPhone Duo for easier one-handed use.
  • The feature shifts screen content horizontally, making elements along the display's edges easier to reach.
  • Users can enable it through Settings -> Accessibility -> Reachability.

Apple has started making one-handed navigation easier on its first foldable iPhone. With the latest iOS 27.3 developer beta, the Cupertino giant has introduced its Reachability feature to the iPhone Duo, allowing users to access different parts of the display without stretching their thumbs.

Apple had previously confirmed (via Wired) that it was working on bringing Reachability to the iPhone Duo and the latest update finally delivers on that promise. The feature is particularly useful given the iPhone Duo's wider display, which has made one-handed use somewhat challenging.

Unlike regular iPhones, where Reachability shifts the upper portion of the screen downwards, the feature works horizontally on the Apple iPhone Duo. It temporarily shifts content from one side of the display towards the other, making interface elements easier to access with one hand.

Users can activate the feature by heading to Settings -> Accessibility -> Reachability.

Once enabled, a short swipe left from the left edge of the display or right from the right edge shifts the screen content towards the opposite side.

This allows users to reach elements along the edges of the display without having to adjust their grip or use both hands. The feature is designed to make navigating the iPhone Duo's expansive display more convenient, particularly for users who struggle with its wider form factor.

Apple's traditional Reachability feature has been around on iPhones since the iPhone 6 series, helping users access elements near the top of increasingly large smartphone displays.

However, with the iPhone Duo, the challenge is accessing the left and right edges rather than the top of the screen. The new implementation addresses that difference by adapting the familiar accessibility feature to the foldable's wider layout.

Now, the iOS 27.3 update is currently limited to developers, with a public beta expected to arrive later. For now, users interested in trying the feature will have to install the developer beta.

However, those concerned about potential bugs and performance issues may want to wait for the stable release.
