Apple has officially unveiled a new Apple Music logo and its creation involved more than digital design. The company worked with British music producer Fred Again and NEST Acoustics to turn sound into physical patterns using liquid and vibrations. The result is a visual identity inspired by sound science.
The official Apple X account confirmed the new logo and identity for Apple Music. The team played an original musical composition through a transducer, a device that converts audio signals into physical vibrations. These vibrations moved mineral oil in a shallow bath, creating ripples and intricate patterns that the camera captured.

The team experimented with different sounds and frequencies to produce the visuals that would shape Apple Music's new identity. The process took months, giving the branding a direct connection to the music it represents rather than relying entirely on computer-generated effects.
A Fresh Look for Apple Music
Alongside the new visual identity, Apple is introducing a redesigned wordmark and a black-and-white colour scheme. The updated branding retains Apple's familiar symbol but pairs it with bold, lowercase lettering based on a customised version of its SF Pro typeface.

The refreshed app icon also moves away from Apple Music's familiar red look. In the iOS 27.2 beta, it features a black logo on a white background in light mode and a white logo on a black background in dark mode.
The liquid-inspired visuals complement Apple's new design direction, including the translucent effects associated with Liquid Glass. However, the central idea here is more literal in the sense that the branding uses patterns created by sound itself.
