Apple has launched its new iPad Mini, bringing one of the biggest upgrades to its compact tablet lineup in recent years. The latest iPad Mini features an OLED display for the first time, alongside a more powerful chipset, a thinner design and improved cameras.
Apple iPad Mini with OLED Display Specifications and Features
The new iPad Mini features an 8.5-inch Super Retina XDR OLED display with a 60 Hz refresh rate. This panel offers a 2,000,000:1 contrast ratio, up to 1,200 nits of peak brightness and 600 nits of full-screen brightness.
Apple claims that the peak brightness is more than twice that of the previous-generation model. The tablet also gets an optional nano-texture display finish to reduce glare in bright environments.

The display sits within thinner bezels, allowing Apple to increase the screen estate while retaining the previous model's overall footprint. The tablet measures just 5.4mm in thickness and carries an IP67 rating for water and dust resistance. It is available in Midnight and Starlight colour options.

Powering the iPad Mini OLED is Apple's A20 Pro chipset, which is built on a 2nm process and utilised by the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max and iPhone Duo as well.
The Cupertino giant claims up to 60% faster multithreaded CPU performance, up to 2.7 times faster graphics performance and up to 4.5 times faster AI performance compared to the previous generation. The 512 GB variant also gets a dual 16-core Neural Engine for more demanding on-device AI workloads.

On the software front, the tablet runs iPadOS 27 and supports Apple's latest Apple Intelligence features, including the new Siri AI experience. However, the availability of certain AI features may vary by language and region.
For photography and video calls, the new iPad Mini OLED gets a 12 MP Centre Stage front camera positioned along the landscape edge. At the back, it features a 12 MP wide camera with Smart HDR 4, 4K @ 60 FPS video recording and an Adaptive True Tone flash.
Another notable addition is the Acoustic Display audio system, which integrates specially designed speakers into the display assembly. Apple says this setup delivers punchier bass and clearer highs while helping create a sealed enclosure for the tablet's IP67 rating. The tablet also retains Touch ID for secure authentication.

Connectivity options include Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6 and Thread support through Apple's N1 wireless networking chipset. The cellular variants feature the latest Apple C2 modem, support eSIM and promise up to 50% faster cellular data speeds than the previous generation.
The new iPad Mini with OLED display supports both the Apple Pencil Pro and Apple Pencil (USB-C), making it suitable for note-taking, sketching and other creative tasks.

Is the New iPad Mini with OLED Display Worth It?

I recently went hands-on with the Oppo Pad Mini and it left me impressed with its slim design, gorgeous OLED display and powerful internals. At just 279 grams, it felt like the kind of compact tablet I could comfortably carry around and use throughout the day.
Now, with the new iPad Mini bringing an OLED display, a powerful A20 Pro chipset and IP67 protection, Apple has made its compact tablet a much more compelling option. What's even more interesting is that the iPad Mini is priced Rs 12,099 less than the Oppo Pad Mini's Rs 94,999 starting price in India.
After having tried the Oppo Pad Mini, I can't wait to see how Apple's new OLED iPad Mini fares in everyday use. Yes, there's that price hike but considering you get an OLED display with a bunch of other improvements, I would call it worthy of it. Who knows, maybe this is my next tablet after all.
