At the WWDC 2026 event earlier this year, Apple introduced Siri AI, its biggest bet on a full-fledged AI assistant for iPhones. Now, it appears that the brand is willing to spend big to ensure Siri AI gets its facts right.

Apple Is Turning to Publishers to Make Siri AI Smarter: Report

An exclusive report from theWall Street Journal has revealed that Apple has been approaching news publishers over the past few months to secure multi-year licensing deals. These are meant to ensure Siri AI has access to current news and information, more specifically, real-time developing data.

The most interesting bit is how Apple plans to approach these multi-year deals. Rather than paying a fixed fee for long-term access to publishers' data, the Cupertino company reportedly proposed a variable compensation model.

Under this arrangement, publishers will get paid each time Siri AI accesses their data to provide answers and information pertaining to real-time news and stories. Apple has reportedly discussed a nine-figure budget, just north of hundreds of millions of dollars, for these payments.

If true, this could become the new standard for how AI models access real-time data. If Apple manages to strike deals with publishers, other AI companies like OpenAI and Anthropic might also need to follow suit to access data from their end.

This wouldn't be the first time Apple has made arrangements with publishers. The brand has been working with media organisations since 2019 for Apple News+. However, this would be the first time Apple has had talks about AI-related content access.

The push makes a lot of sense in the context of what Siri AI is meant to do. As Apple unveiled at WWDC 2026, Siri AI has been rebuilt from the ground up as a full conversational assistant. Moreover, licensed deals with verified publishers will mean Apple will have access to the most accurate information all the time.

This could give Apple an edge over competitors like ChatGPT and Claude, which are known to hallucinate data. That said, Apple has not confirmed anything yet, and the Wall Street Journal says it has reached out to the brand. So, stay tuned for further updates.
