An iPhone without a case is a disaster waiting to happen. But the last thing I want is something bland and uninspiring that wraps its shell around the back of my iPhone and turns it into brutalist dross.
So, to protect my iPhone Air and give it some personality, I scoured the web until I came across the E-ink Case by CaseKart and the sight of it alone made my day.

The case is made exclusively for Apple iPhones, with an e-reader display on the back where you can upload your photos, designs, wallpapers, or whatever you can think of. How cool is that!
But before we get to that cool bit, let’s consider the protective covering first. It’s quite basic, with that rubbery plastic feel that can sometimes feel like faux leather. The camera guards are raised to protect the lens and the side button covering has a hard plastic feel. So no complaints there.

Coming back to the E-ink display on the rear, you’ll perhaps remember E-ink from e-readers. But don’t think it’ll help you read in this case (ha). The idea here is to have a static photo on the back. This could be a wallpaper, a piece of text, a photo of your partner or spouse, a painting, or an AI-made design.

The E-ink display is a coloured screen, with Red, Black, and White colours, even if it’s a stretch to call Black and White colours. Nevertheless, they blend together well to cover a decent range.
The E-ink case by CaseKart also comes with an app that lets you create or pull photos from your library.

When paired through NFC, it sends the information from your iPhone to the E-ink display on the case. And just like that, it appears on the back of your iPhone.

Okay, so it takes about 15-18 seconds to fully appear, which is why reading books is a no-go on this. But once it’s done adding the layers and refreshing a bunch of times, the results are truly stunning.

Because they’re on an E-ink display, the images have this grainy effect that is oddly satisfying. It also harkens back to when people kept polaroids of their pets and loved ones on the back of their cases.

Because the E-ink display on this case doesn’t require battery, it always remains on.
I’m sure people will put all kinds of things on the E-ink display, like boarding passes, train tickets, ID cards, QR codes, scenic vistas, motivational quotes, anime characters, and what not. I’m a big Munch fanboy, so I cycle through his paintings from one day to the next.

Seeing the back of the iPhone transform into a canvas is an everyday joy I didn’t know I was looking for. Sure, this E-ink case by CaseKart isn’t one of its kind. There are several similar cases out here that does this. But it’s definitely one of the more affordable ones out there. CaseKart also has a Buy 1 Get 1 Offer, which makes it the best deal out there for such E-ink cases.
