At the Google I/O 2026 event back in May, the Alphabet-owned company introduced Gemini Spark, an agentic AI assistant designed to automate Google Workspace tasks. Up until now, it was limited to the US. Gemini Spark is now rolling out to select users in India, bringing Google's agentic workflow to the country.

Gemini Spark can run on the web, Android and Apple iPhones. It is also set to arrive in the form of a standalone Mac app. However, that is not available at the time of writing.

What Exactly Is Gemini Spark

For those unaware, the core functionality of Gemini Spark is task automation. The feature uses the latest Gemini 3.6 Flash LLM model to run multiple commands in the background, from task initiation to completion.

Gemini Spark can run 24/7 on dedicated virtual machines in Google Cloud. This means that once initiated, Spark can continue working on the query even when the device is turned off and/or not kept under continuous observation.

Once the task is complete, Spark will automatically send alert notifications to users. The AI assistant will display all the currently running tasks (much like the thinking pathway of ChatGPT and Claude) and can work across Docs, Gmail, Sheets, Drive and more.

Moreover, Gemini Spark will also integrate with Google Chrome to harness search agents. This means that users will be able to use Spark to monitor real-time developments like stock trading, restaurant recommendations, apartment hunting and more.

In its official blog post, Google has also detailed some prompts to try out with Gemini Spark:

  • Free-spirited traveller: "Whenever a new flight or hotel booking confirmation email arrives, automatically add the details to my ‘My Bali Trip Itinerary’ Google Sheet.” and “Find interesting local events and activities happening in Bali when I’m there and add them to my calendar on days I’ve got nothing else planned."
  • Weekend maxxer: "Every Friday at 8 AM, find local events that you think I'd be interested in and add them to my rolling ‘Weekend plans’ Google Doc that I can check for inspiration on things to do. Include key info about the events or activities, including links to learn more. If there are 1-3 events that you highly recommend, go ahead and add them to my calendar."
  • Productive professional: "Read through the last 50 emails that I wrote and turn it into a style guide for how I write emails. Turn that into a skill that gets used every time I ask you to draft emails for me. Call that skill ‘ghostwriter’."

To reiterate, Gemini Spark is available to a limited set of Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers in India. With agentic AI becoming a bigger focus for Google, expect more features and broader availability in the future.
