Google is rolling out the Android 17 QPR2 Beta 6 update to supported Pixel phones. The release arrives just a week after the Android 17 QPR2 Beta 5 and focuses on fixing glitches, bugs and instabilities.
Bearing the build number CP41.260831.007, Android 17 QPR2 Beta 6 weighs around 510 MB, depending on the phone. The update is available for all Google Pixel phones starting with the Pixel 6a and newer models, but not the Pixel 11 series. Google says the Pixel 11 series will be included in a few days.
Starting with the features, many Reddit users report that Google has stripped out two features – the native App Lock functionality and the background blur effect within the notification panel.
In response to these comments in the release thread, Android's Community Manager, Mishaal Rahman, said they removed them to fix underlying bugs and will roll them out again in upcoming updates.
In the official Android 16 QPR2 Beta 6 changelog, the update resolves unexpected device reboots on the Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold that occurred whenever a third-party app initialised the camera viewfinder. Additionally, Google patched a kernel crash that caused devices to randomly reboot when third-party apps requested microphone and camera access simultaneously during a biometric identity check.
Secondary fixes address frustrating UI glitches, including instances where the charging screensaver displayed a completely blank screen. Other fixes include random scrolling freezes and a visual regression where letterboxed content bled through the top status bar during activity transitions.
Additionally, a bug that prevented locked applications from being swiped away in the Recents menu has been resolved. Those on Android 17 QPR2 Beta 5 can download Beta 6 via an OTA update, but users who want to try out the beta need to enrol their Pixel via the official Android Beta page.
Users can head over to Settings -> System -> Software updates on their eligible Pixels to get the update.
