MediaTek has officially confirmed the launch date for its next flagship chipset, the Dimensity 9600 Pro. The chipset is set to be unveiled in China on September 15, 2026, at 2:30 PM local time (or 12:00 PM IST).

This is quite the shift for MediaTek, which has typically kept its flagship naming simple, without any "Pro" or "Elite" suffix, on both last year's Dimensity 9500 and the Dimensity 9400 before it.

Beyond the naming change, the Dimensity 9600 Pro will also be MediaTek's first mobile chipset built on a 2nm process node. Following its debut, the chipset is expected to power top-tier upcoming flagships like the Vivo X500 Pro Max and the Oppo Find X10 Pro Max.

MediaTek's own teasers ahead of launch have focused heavily on gaming, pointing to AI-assisted GPU rendering built directly into the GPU pipeline, an upgraded Star Speed Engine and hardware-accelerated ray tracing. On the camera side, the company has confirmed support for 4K @ 240 FPS slow motion video recording.

While MediaTek hasn't detailed the chipset's core architecture or cluster design yet, leaks around the Dimensity 9600 Pro have revealed a few details. Multiple reports point to a 2+3+3 octa-core CPU layout, featuring two "Canyon Ultra" prime cores clocked up to 5.0 GHz.

This could be paired with the latest-generation LPDDR6 memory for roughly double the bandwidth of the previous standard.

An earlier Dimensity 9600 Pro Geekbench listing saw the chipset aboard the Vivo X500 Pro Max manage to hit 4,137 points and 12,751 points in the single-core and multi-core scores, respectively. The chipset is also expected to power the Vivo X500 Pro and the Oppo Find X10 Pro Max.

Notably, the Dimensity 9600 Pro launch is about a week ahead of Qualcomm's own Snapdragon Summit 2026, where the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 and its rumoured 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 variant are expected to go official.

Between the jump to a 2nm node, LPDDR6 support and more, the Dimensity 9600 Pro will certainly give Snapdragon and Apple's next-gen chipsets some serious competition.
