Nothing has officially launched Nothing OS 5.0, its latest major software update built on Android 17. The update brings a substantial visual refresh alongside deeper personalisation, new widgets, smoother performance and a significant expansion of the company's Essential AI tools.
Nothing OS 5.0 Gets a Major Design Refresh
Nothing OS 5.0 introduces a more cohesive visual language across the interface, with refreshed typography, icons, spacing, animations and layouts. There's a new Lucent theme, which uses transparent and layered elements across widgets and Essential Search, while app icons and 1x1 Quick Settings widgets can pick up colours from the user's wallpaper.
The update also introduces the Geist typeface, more expressive status bar icons, as well as refreshed Settings, Gallery, and Camera apps. Gallery gets improved sorting, filtering, album management, and editing tools, while Camera receives cleaner controls and a simpler QR scanning experience.
The lock screen gets a new Gooey clockface and another detailed hardware-inspired clock face, wallpaper-matched clock colours and improved Depth Effect wallpapers with more control over how subjects interact with the clock.

Additionally, Nothing is bringing batch editing to the homescreen, allowing users to move around elements in the interface more easily.
Nothing is also adding several new widgets, including Away Time, which tracks time spent away from the phone. Then there's the Collector widget, which turns photos into visual collections. Meanwhile, the Glyph Timer widget lets users start timers from the home screen and display the remaining time through the Glyph.
The Glyph Interface/Glyph Matrix also gets a dedicated app bringing its features, sounds, ringtones and schedules together.
Bluetooth controls have also been streamlined in Quick Settings, while multiple home screen apps and widgets can now be selected and moved together.

Nothing says Nothing OS 5.0 improves app launches, scrolling, touch response and multitasking. On-device intelligence learns frequently used apps and keeps them ready, while overnight memory optimisation is designed to maintain performance over time.
Background apps also use fewer resources, while animations respond more quickly to changing gestures.
Essential Voice gets faster processing, improved transcription and formatting and real-time results. It also supports Super Mic on the Nothing Ear (3). Users can assign different actions to long-press and double-click gestures on the Essential Key, with transcription supporting more than 100 languages and translation supporting more than 70 languages.
Essential Space gets Smart Collections, which can recommend relevant content and collections, alongside a redesigned capture flow and new Quick Actions. Nothing OS 5.0 also adds Model Context Protocol (MCP) support for compatible AI platforms.

Another notable addition is the ability to build Essential Apps using natural language. Users can describe an app they want and have Essential create it and place it on the home screen. The feature remains in beta.

Android 17 Brings More Changes to Nothing OS 5.0
Nothing OS 5.0 also brings several Android 17 features, including the ability to separate Notifications and Quick Settings, cross-platform Quick Share between Android and iOS, and a new floating screen-recording control.
Other additions include Noto 3D Emoji, new Unicode characters, updated privacy indicators, independent Assistant volume controls and HDR brightness controls. The latest Nothing OS update also brings an expanded Dark Theme and a redesigned Recents menu.

Nothing OS 5.0 Rollout Timeline and Eligible Devices
Nothing OS 5.0 is rolling out in multiple stages. The public Open Beta is confirmed to roll out on August 26, 2026, starting with the Nothing Phone 3.
It will roll out to other Nothing phones later on. The list of Nothing OS 5.0 eligible devices includes:

Users can head over to the official Nothing.tech page to sign up. Meanwhile, the stable, general release is scheduled for October this year.
There are also a couple of important limitations during the beta phase. The redesigned home screen and Micrographics clockface will not be available in the Open Beta. Nothing plans to introduce both features with the stable October release after additional testing.
