Nothing's smartphone journey started way back in 2022 with the launch of the Nothing Phone 1. From the iconic Glyph Interface to the entire transparent design and Dot Matrix font, the brand managed to carve out a name for itself amongst tech enthusiasts and consumers alike. Now, after four long years, it is finally time for the Phone 1 to rest as it has reached the end of its software life cycle.

Nothing Phone 1 Receives Its Final July 2026 Security Update

A new Nothing community post has confirmed that the Nothing Phone 1 has reached the end of its lifecycle. The phone is currently receiving the July 2026 security patch and that will be the last update the phone will ever receive. It has completed the promised three years of software updates and four years of security patches.

As part of the final release, the Phone 1 is receiving general stability improvements and bug fixes, enhanced system stability and of course the latest July 2026 security patch. Nothing has also confirmed that while the Phone 1 will stop receiving future updates, it will remain functional.

So, if you are still rocking the OG Nothing smartphone, there is no need for worry. However, we will recommend you switch to one of the newer Nothing phones to ensure continuity of services and save yourself from security threats and vulnerabilities.

In honour of the first Nothing Phone 1, the brand's Community Board Observer (CBO), Rohit Pakalapati, has confirmed via X that he will be switching to the Phone 1 for the next month to share his opinion on what it's like to use the phone in 2026.

So, in case you own the Nothing Phone 1, make sure to download and install the final update by heading over to Settings -> System -> System Updates -> Check for update. I personally own the Nothing Phone 2 and it is a constant reminder of how far Nothing has come as a brand and how mature Nothing OS is today.

As the brand prepares to launch the Nothing Phone 4b in India next week, it is a good time for us OG users to relive the moment and pay a slight homage to the smartphone that started it all.
