Summary

  • Samsung is almost done beta testing One UI 8 update, as a new stable build has surfaced online.
  • Thus build isn't rolling out yet, but it includes most of the previously-announced One UI 8 features.
  • The Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7 series, launching next month, could be the first set of devices to run One UI 8 out-of-the-box.

One UI 8 is the next big software update for Samsung Galaxy devices, and the firm has been testing the Beta version for the last month. However, Samsung could be done testing One UI 8 as a new firmware has been spotted whose build number suggests the update has been moved to stable.

According to SamMobile's sources, the latest One UI 8 build for the Galaxy S25 Ultra carries a build number BYFB. If it were a beta build, the initial letter would be “Z.” But since it starts with a “B,” this build appears to be a stable update.

It's worth noting that this update has not been released to the public yet. Instead, Samsung might have a bit more internal testing to do before it does go public. However, the switch to stable suggests that the firm is pretty confident the new One UI 8 builds are stable.

Although not a huge update by any means, it contains a handful of new features like Live captions during calls, new clock styles on the lock screen, and wallpaper suggestions. It should also bring the new 90:10 split screen multitasking feature and a few tweaks in the camera app, alongside enhanced Quick Share, and better Reminders app with minor UI changes.

Samsung's upcoming foldable devices are expected to be the first to run One UI 8 out of the box. The firm could hold the update until Galaxy Unpacked 2025 scheduled for July 9. However, considering the update brings slight improvements over One UI 7, we wouldn't be surprised if it rolls out to Galaxy S25 series before Galaxy Unpacked.

That said, the horrors of One UI 7 delays might still haunt Samsung to this day, which could be the reason One UI 8 release is slightly ahead of the schedule. Regardless, the firm might just get enough time to breathe a sigh of relief after One UI 8's release, considering everything goes according to the plan.

For those unaware, the One UI 7 fiasco also led Samsung to jump straight to One UI 8 Watch on the Galaxy Watches. Samsung had already announced One UI 8 watch coming to Galaxy Watch 7 series pretty soon. However, we expect the Galaxy Watch 8 series to come preinstalled with the same.
