The OnePlus 16 launched in China only recently and OnePlus already appears to be working on its successor. A new leak suggests the company is preparing to push its display technology to the absolute extreme for the OnePlus 17.
According to tipster Smart Pikachu on Weibo, OnePlus is testing a mind-boggling 240 Hz refresh rate for the in-development OnePlus 17.

For those unaware, the OnePlus 16 and Asus ROG Phone 9 have the highest-ever refresh rates in smartphones, alongside phones like the Sharp Aquos R11 using frame interpolation to hit 240 Hz.
The tipster claims that the high refresh rate panel is currently in the testing phase and the final retail product could still revert to a more standard refresh rate if thermal or power consumption issues arise.
While the tipster doesn't delve deep into the specifics, it does raise the question of whether 240 Hz on the OnePlus 17 will be interpolated. In any case, the trade-offs that come with an actual 240 Hz refresh rate display could include heavy battery drain, thermal throttling and a resolution trade-off.
That said, the OnePlus 17 is still around a year away from launch. Details about its other specifications, such as cameras, battery life and processor, are scarce at the moment. However, more information should be revealed as we transition into 2027, so stay tuned.
Until then, gamers can shift their attention toward the OnePlus 16. For those unaware, the OnePlus 16 became the best-selling flagship in China, so it's certainly worth checking out. Whether it will launch in India or not is a separate story altogether. That will also decide the OnePlus 17's fate in the country.
