Oppo's Ultra flagship for 2026, the Find X9 Ultra is almost here as the brand has started teasing the smartphone extensively. With superior imaging advancements and engineering feats, the upcoming phone could very well represent the pinacle of smartphone photography. Now, that fact seems cemented with the Find 9 Ultra achieving something previously thought impossible.
Oppo Find X9 Ultra Can Natively Do 10x Optical Zoom
The development comes straight from Oppo's Product Manager Zhou Shijie, who took to Weibo, revealing that the Oppo Find X9 Ultra will become the first phone in the world to offer 10x Optical Zoom natively from a regularly-sized smartphone. He claims that this breakthrough was once considered the "forbidden zone in physics" and was realistically impossible to achieve without making the smartphone "as thick as a brick".

That narrative changes with the Oppo Find X9 Ultra becoming the first modern-day phone to pack a 10x periscope telephoto camera inside a sub-9 mm body. Shijie has revealed that Oppo has achieved this by crafting a penta prism lens system, which makes use of five reflective prisms, stacked on top of one another to achieve a higher zoom range and focal distance. This will help the Find X9 Ultra to physically zoom up to 10 times optically with a focal length of 463 mm.
Beyond that, the custom-built JNL 50 MP periscope telephoto camera will be able to achieve 20x "optical quality" zoom and 120x digital zoom. This brings it on par with the Hasselblad Teleconverter Kit of the Oppo Find X9 and Find X9 Pro.

Shijie has also shared some more technical details about the telephoto lens, like the optical distance between the persicope lens and the camera has been reduced to just 29mm. It also comes with an AOA (Active Optical Arrangement) calibration for "gimbal-like" OIS and real-time lens adjustment.
Moreover, the microlens and colour filters have also been fine-tuned for true-to-life colours and almost negligible colour shift during focal distance switching. Oppo is pairing Hasselblad imaging with its in-house LUMO imaging to formulate the colour science of the Find X9 Ultra.
All in all, besides hardware, Oppo has also worked on the software and algorithm side to make sure that the Find X9 Ultra is unmatched when it comes to cameras. As for the other cameras, Oppo has yet to reveal details about them officially. However, leaks and rumours point to a 200 MP main camera and a 50 MP ultra-wide angle lens. With the Find X9 Ultra global and China launch happening in April 2026, we will just have to wait for a few more months for the 2026 Ultra flagship contender to launch.
