Summary

  • Poco M8 5G is confirmed to get four years of major OS updates and six years of security patches.
  • The phone will run on Android 15-based HyperOS 2 out of the box.
  • Confirmed Poco M8 5G specs include MIL-STD-810H certification, a 7.35mm thin design and 178 grams weight.

Looks like Poco is planning on making its upcoming budget M8 5G as future-proof as possible. The Poco M8 5G is now confirmed to receive the longest software update support on a Poco M series smartphone.

Poco M8 5G will get 4+6 years of software updates

The brand took to its official India X handle to confirm that the upcoming Poco M8 5G will be getting four years of major Android updates and six years of security patches. That's quite the jump from the Poco M7 5G's 2+4 update policy.

In addition, the dedicated Flipkart microsite has also been updated to reflect the long-term software support. The same microsite also reveals that the Poco M8 5G will run on Android 15-based HyperOS 2.0 right out of the box. However, it will also obviously be a part of the HyperOS 3.0 supported devices list, getting support for all the way up to Android 19, which is super impressive for a budget phone.

Apart from that, we also know that the Poco M8 5G will also be quite durable on the outside with a MIL-STD-810H certification and IP66 rating. According to the brand, the phone has been drop tested up to 1.7 metres and also flaunts Wet Touch 2.0 technology to keep the display usable with wet hands.

However, the phone will also be 7.35mm thick while weighing 178 grams. The Poco M8 5G specifications also include a 6.77-inch 3D curved AMOLED display with a 120 Hz refresh rate and a resolution of 2392 x 1080 pixels. This screen will also be capable of reaching 3,200 nits of peak brightness.

Under the hood, the smartphone is powered by the Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 chipset, paired with up to 16 GB of RAM. For those unware, the 6 Gen 3 is a more powerful Snapdragon 6s Gen 3.

The brand hasn't confirmed any of the other details. However, since the Poco M8 5G launch date in India is close by, we won't have to wait for long to know all the details.
