Redmi has already scheduled the Redmi K100 Pro series launch date in China for August 11, but the company isn't waiting until launch day to reveal its biggest upgrades. Redmi has now confirmed the chipset powering the standard Redmi K100 Pro. We also get to know that it will come in a special glow-in-the-dark colourway.

Redmi K100 Pro to Feature Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 V series

The official Redmi Weibo account has revealed that the Redmi K100 Pro will be driven by a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 V series processor. It could be the same 3 nm chipset that was spotted in a previous Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 variant leak, but in this case it boasts the SKU number SM8850-1-AB

Redmi claims the processor helps the K100 Pro score 4.09 million in AnTuTu V11 and combines a special 3D loop pump cooling system to keep thermals in check during extended gameplay.

The chipset essentially shares the same specifications as the regular Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5. However, instead of using an 18 MB dedicated Adreno HPM, the SM8850-1-AB sports a 12 MB HPM.

One of Redmi's other posts reveals the display and design specifications of the phone. Users will find a 6.59-inch OLED display with a 185 Hz refresh rate. The design language closely mirrors the Pro Max, featuring a prominent rectangular camera housing with a triple-lens setup.

Like its bigger sibling, the K100 Pro also boasts a Bose-tuned audio system for immersive sound.

Redmi K100 Pro could Glow in the Dark

However, a standout design feature that Redmi highlighted, quite literally, is the "Firefly Chasing Light" green colourway. This new finish incorporates a unique glow-in-the-dark back panel that allows users to temporarily draw illuminated patterns on the phone using a light source. Those who like a traditional look will also have the white colourway at their disposal.

Other Redmi K100 Pro specifications include a 200 MP main camera, an 8,000mAh battery with 100W fast charging and 50W wireless charging, and an ultrasonic in-display fingerprint sensor.

The Redmi K100 Pro will be joined by the top-tier Redmi K100 Pro Max at launch. However, an important thing to note is that Redmi President Lu Weibing previously confirmed that the Redmi K100 will not be launching alongside the K100 Pro and K100 Pro Max. The base model hasn't been cancelled but has been delayed due to the ongoing RAM crisis

While the K series is expected to be China-exclusive, these smartphones could launch in countries like India as the Poco F9 and the Poco F9 Ultra.
