Samsung is reportedly working on a new "A" series smartphone, the Galaxy A17 5G. While not much was known about the smartphone previously, a new leak today has completely revealed the design and specs of the smartphone, leaving very little to imagination.
This new leak comes directly from fellow tech publication Android Headlines, who has shared some exclusive details regarding the Samsung Galaxy A17 5G. From the looks of it, these appear to be the official marketing materials for the smartphone that the brand will seemingly use to promote and launch the smartphone.
From the design front, the smartphone looks almost identical to the 2024 Galaxy A16 5G. It has the same recessed side frame with a protruding base for the power and volume buttons. The only differentiating factor is seemingly the pill-shaped rear camera module on the Galaxy A17 which was missing from the Galaxy A16.

It also features an LED Flash module on the side of the camera island and the "Samsung" branding at the bottom. The leaked images reveal the device in dark blue, gray and black colour options. The Galaxy A17 is also expected to carry forward Samsung's "thin and light smartphone" obsession, with a 7.5mm mid-frame and 192 grams of weight. For context, the Galaxy A16 featured a 7.99mm chassis and weighed 200 grams.
On the display front, it will reportedly feature a 6.7-inch 90 Hz Super AMOLED panel with an Infinity-U waterdrop styled notch for the selfie camera. It also appears to have relatively thick bezels on the top and the chin. Expect the smartphone to feature Corning's Gorilla Glass Victus protection and IP54 rating.

Under the hood, the smartphone might pack the Samsung Exynos 1330 chipset which is the same that featured on the A16 5G. Despite rumours hinting at the Exynos 1380 SoC, it appears Samsung is in the mood to repackage the existing A16 with a new name for a new year.
Apart from this, the device will likely offer up to 8 GB of RAM and up to 256 GB of storage. Users will also likely get the option to expand the onboard storage by up to 2 TB via microSD card expansion.
On the camera department, Samsung will likely stick to the exact same setup as that of the Galaxy A16. Expect the module to feature a 50 MP main camera, 5 MP ultra-wide lens and a 2 MP macro sensor. The only addition this time around is said to arrive in the form of OIS.

The device can launch with a 5,000mAh battery with 25W USB-C charging support and ship with One UI 7 based on Android 15 out of the box. Another neat addition to the box could come in the form of a charging brick, at least for the EU (European Union), where the leaked promo materials belong to.
Lastly, expect the Galaxy A17 to feature Samsung's AI galore like Gemini-powered Circle to Search, and Cross App AI. It could also get 6 years of software and security updates promise just like the Galaxy A16.
With that said, since the Galaxy A16 5G launched back in October 2024, we can expect the Galaxy A17 to stick to a familiar launch timeline in 2025. This could happen shortly after the Samsung Galaxy S25 FE breaks cover, which is also expected to land in October 2025.
