Samsung is having another go at open earbuds with the upcoming Galaxy Buds On (previously dubbed Able). Expected to arrive in Q4 2026. A recent app teardown has revealed its clip-on design and software features.
Following the previous Galaxy Buds Able leak, the assets SammuGuru uncovered in Samsung's Buds Manager app reveal the earbuds' design in black colourway. The buds appear to be using a flexible silicone loop to connect two distinct physical sections.
The larger rounded bulb houses the acoustic drivers and rests inside the ear's concha, while the flat, concave end secures to the outside of the ear and serves as a touch-capacitive surface. While the assets show only the black colour, internal app strings indicate a white variant is also in development.
Due to their open-ear design, the Samsung Buds On won't boast Active Noise Cancellation. However, the internal app data reveals quite a few interesting intelligent features in development, including Contextual Audio and Media Sleep Tracking.
For those unware, there's a new "Auto Volume" tool that dynamically raises or lowers volume based on ambient environmental noise, while a "Volume Boost" toggle allows for maximum loudness. For users on One UI 9 or above, the earbuds can auto-pause media and sleep sounds once the wearer has fallen asleep.
Lastly, the Buds On may also bring the hands-free nod-and-shake call controls introduced on the Buds 4 series. Wearers can instantly trigger Gemini or Bixby via voice or touch, or map a long-press gesture to instantly record and auto-transcribe voice memos (which requires One UI 8.5+).
Regulatory listings confirm earbuds could launch soon. They also cleared India's BIS certification under the model number SM-U600. Besides, test firmware has already populated on Samsung's internal servers across Korea, India, Vietnam, and Malaysia.
More information about their potential launch date and key specifications should be revealed as we inch closer to launch. Beyond open-ear earbuds, Samsung is also working on H1 over the ear headphones with ANC which we should hear about more soon, so stay tuned.
