Samsung's Galaxy S26 series is expected to go official by early 2026. Ahead of that, the rumour mill is buzzing with all sorts of leaks. Now, the latest one spills the beans on the alleged camera upgrades coming to the next "Galaxy S" series smartphones.
The entire Galaxy S26 lineup is set to gain a new telephoto camera sensor
According to tipster Alchimist Leaks, the upcoming Galaxy S26 lineup, including the Galaxy S26 Ultra are all set to gain new camera hardwares. The biggest update will reportedly arrive in the form of a new large 12 MP 3x telephoto camera with a 1/2.55-inch size.

If true, this will break Samsung's four-year long spell of using the same 10 MP 1/3.52-inch 3x telephoto sensor for its flagship phones. The new large sensor upgrade will not only result in better light gathering and sharper images, it will also improve the detail retention when it comes to telephoto zoom shots.
Moreover, Samsung might take it up a notch with the S26 Ultra by equipping it with an even larger sensor size. This will be an important differentiating factor better the Ultra and the other models. However, at the time of writing, there is no confirmation on the same yet.

Other than the new telephoto sensor, the leak also claims that Samsung will ditch the 12 MP ultra-wide sensor used in the standard and the plus models for an upgraded 50 MP ultra-wide angle camera. Even the 200 MP main camera on the Galaxy S26 Ultra is getting a makeover.
So, it is good to see that Samsung fans will finally get the much-requested camera upgrades that they have been asking for quite some time now. And these upgrades might not stop there. Alchimist further claims that, contrary to earlier leaks, the Galaxy S26 Ultra battery capacity could very likely go from 5,000mAh to 5,400mAh.

Although nothing has been confirmed yet, these new revelations fall in line with what Daniel Araujo, VP of Samsung’s Mobile Experience Division, revealed a few days back. He confirmed that the Galaxy S26 series Exynos chip, as well as AI improvements and camera hardware.
That said, the upcoming flagship launch from Samsung is shaping up to be an interesting one. With the Galaxy S26 series launch possibly delayed to February or March 2026, it will be interesting to see what the brand has been cooking behind the scenes.
