While the Galaxy S27 Ultra won't debut until next year, the rumour mill is already painting a vivid picture of its camera prowess. However, while fans may expect upgrades, the recent leak points toward a controversial elimination of the 3x telephoto camera.
A recent X post from tipster Ice Universe suggests that the Samsung Galaxy S27 Ultra will miss out on a 3x telephoto camera. Instead, it is expected to feature a 50 MP 5x periscope telephoto sensor with an f/2.9 aperture for zoom shots. This is in line with previous rumours suggesting that the Galaxy S27 Ultra could ditch the 10 MP 3x lens.
The main camera is tipped to be a custom 200 MP ISOCELL HP6 sensor. It is described as a Galaxy-specific variant of the ISOCELL HPC, which integrates DeepPix architecture. This should translate to a much better dynamic range and highlight suppression.
This could be the reason why, in another post, the tipster says the Galaxy S27 Ultra could bring improvements in colour tones, shifting to a warmer aesthetic. Additionally, he says that the camera will better manage highlights with controlled brightness, combined with better noise handling in low light.
Samsung's image processing has historically leaned toward cooler tones, but the upcoming changes to image processing should aid in improving the overall camera experience. Besides photography, the brand is also rumoured to incorporate Samsung Log and APV video tools.
In addition to these camera leaks, Ice Universe also shared a few Galaxy S27 Ultra cases revealing the phone's design. Beyond the revamped back design, the photos reveal that Samsung is moving the laser autofocus beneath the back as a seamless design choice.
Apart from what we already know, the smartphone is expected to arrive with the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 chipset alongside upgraded Samsung M16 display panels, a larger 5,700mAh battery with 60W charging.
