Samsung has officially launched the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2, alongside the standard Galaxy Watch 9 at the Galaxy Unpacked 2026 event on July 22, 2026. While the Watch 9 is built for everyday wellness tracking, the Watch Ultra 2 is Samsung's most powerful and advanced Galaxy Watch yet, aimed at high-performance athletes and outdoor enthusiasts.
Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 Specifications and Features
The Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 is designed for long-lasting performance in demanding environments, and its hardware reflects that focus. It's powered by the Snapdragon Wear Elite Platform, making this the first time a Galaxy Watch has used this chipset. Thanks to this chipset, the smartwatch promises to deliver faster performance and more accurate GPS tracking.
It's backed by an 800mAh battery, a 35% capacity increase over the previous Ultra model. In addition, it features what Samsung calls the world's first smartwatch display with 5,000 nits of brightness, ensuring solid visibility even under direct sunlight.
Despite the larger battery, Samsung says the Watch Ultra 2 is actually 12% thinner than its predecessor. This is due to internal re-engineering, while its band is 26% lighter with a new air pocket structure for a more secure, comfortable fit.
The watch retains its predecessor's shock-resistant titanium casing and is available in a single 47mm size, in Titanium Silver or Titanium Grey.
For outdoor athletes, the Watch Ultra 2 introduces Trail Run, a new tracking mode that measures elevation, climbing progress, and terrain impact in real time, helping users reduce injury risk. It's paired with an upgraded Nutrition Alert feature, which now includes hydration guidance based on estimated sweat loss relative to body weight.
The watch also adds dedicated support for diving. It carries an IP69K rating, 10 ATM water resistance, and EN13319 certification. It can automatically track depth, dive time, and water temperature the moment it detects the user has entered water.
Samsung has also partnered with diving equipment brand Mares to bring advanced features like ascent and descent speed tracking and safe dive limits through a dedicated Diving app, expected to roll out later this year.
The Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 comes with AI-driven health tools, built around Samsung's BioActive sensor and updated Samsung Health app. This includes an upgraded Sleep Apnea feature backed by new FDA clearance, which analyses breathing disruptions using AI and categorises them into three severity levels.
There's also Vitals, which establishes a personalised health baseline during sleep and flags meaningful deviations, and Heart Health Score, which condenses cardiovascular wellness into a single, easy-to-understand score.
Rounding out the suite is Daily Cardio Load, which offers guidance on workout volume and recovery needs. Then there's Fitness Index, which sets personalised fitness goals based on body composition and workout history, and a Hearing feature that alerts users to unsafe noise levels.
The Watch Ultra 2 offers a Marine Band, PeakForm Band, and Trail Band, each suited to different outdoor conditions.
The Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 runs on Wear OS 7 with One UI 9 Watch on top, and comes bundled with subscription perks, including a 60-day free trial of Strava and a 2-month free trial of iFIT.
Samsung Care+ is also available for the smartwatch, offering repair and warranty coverage, manageable directly from a paired Galaxy phone running One UI 9.
