Last year, with the launch of the Galaxy Z Fold 7, Samsung brought the biggest revamp to its Galaxy foldables yet. From a refined design to key hardware upgrades, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 emerged as one of the best folding phones of 2025. Now, in 2026, it looks like the South Korean brand is building on the same foundation for the Galaxy Z Fold 8.

Thanks to an exclusive report shared by Android Headlines, we have our first official look at the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8. The foldable phone is showcased in a Blue shade, lighter than the Blue Shadow colourway of the Galaxy Z Fold 7.

Right off the bat, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 looks identical to the Galaxy Z Fold 7. It features the same boxy, tall design with seemingly the same sharp edges. It carries forward the pill-shaped camera plateau with a triple rear camera setup. The inner bezel surrounding the folding display also appears to be of the same thickness and is uniform, like the Galaxy Z Fold 7.

However, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 may be slightly thicker than the Galaxy Z Fold 7. It is said to be about 158.4 x 143.2 x 4.5 mm when unfolded and 158.4 x 72.8 x 9 mm when folded. For comparison, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 is 4.2 mm thick when unfolded and 8.9 mm thick when folded.

While nothing is confirmed yet, it appears the main reason for the increase in the Galaxy Z Fold 8's thickness is the battery capacity. The report notes a 600 mAh increase over the Galaxy Fold 7, bringing the Galaxy Z Fold 8's capacity to 5,000 mAh. This falls in line with a recent report, which suggested that the Galaxy Z Fold 8 could get a bigger battery this year. Additionally, the upcoming foldable is also said to see a charging speed boost at 45W.

Moreover, it also seems like Samsung will swap the 12 MP ultra-wide-angle camera for a 50 MP sensor. As for the rest of the Galaxy Z Fold 8 specifications, it could be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset, feature a 200 MP main camera, sport a 6.5-inch outer display and run on Android 17-based OneUI 9.

That said, since this is an early leak, take it with a pinch of salt. With Samsung holding its Unpacked event for foldables in the month of July, we still have a few more months left for concrete information to emerge. So, stay tuned.
