Samsung's new Galaxy Z Fold 8, Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra and Galaxy Z Flip 8 aren't just about new hardware. The latest foldables also support a built-in phone-to-webcam feature, letting users turn their cameras into high-resolution webcams for Windows and Mac without any extra apps or accessories.
As reported by Android Authority, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8, Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, and Galaxy Z Flip 8 now support using their cameras as webcams on Windows and Mac computers. The feature was first introduced on the Galaxy S26 series with One UI 8.5 and has now been extended to the new foldables, which ship with One UI 9.0 out of the box.
Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Z Flip 8 Webcam Feature: How Does It Work?
To use the phone-to-webcam feature, users will need to connect the foldables to their computer via a USB-C cable (preferably the one that ships with the phones). This will summon the expanded USB settings menu and a new "Webcam" option will be visible just above the "Charging phone only" option.
Selecting that will automatically turn the cameras on the Galaxy Z Fold 8, Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra and Galaxy Z Flip 8 into high-res webcams for your laptop/PC.
The best part is that users will not need any additional accessories, apps or software to make the feature work. It is baked into One UI 9.0, giving a plug-and-play experience.
This is also a nifty addition to Galaxy foldables, since the folding form factor itself makes them versatile to use as webcams. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra can be propped open at an angle in tent or stand mode.
Meanwhile, the Galaxy Z Flip 8 can be partially unfolded and placed on a desk to position the cameras at natural eye-level.
That said, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 series and Galaxy Z Flip 8 are up for pre-order in India and will enter open sales on August 7, 2026. Anyway, one noteworthy detail about the webcam feature is that it is currently limited to the Galaxy Z Fold 8 series, Galaxy Z Flip 8 and Galaxy S26 lineup. The phone-to-webcam facility has not been extended to other One UI 8.5 eligible devices like the Galaxy S25 series.
