Snapseed, Google's in-house photo editing app, has definitely seen better days on Android. However, the app recently made a comeback on iPhone with new features, leaving Android users stuck with the old version. Well, no need to switch phones or give iPhone users the side eye, Snapseed 4.0 will arrive on Android this week.

Snapseed 4.0 Android Release Is Almost Here

The news comes straight from Giles Ochs, Google's Product Lead for Snapseed, who recently posted a short video on his Instagram account. The short video shows comments from frustrated Android users, unhappy about the update not arriving on Android first. It ends with him replying to one of the comments with "See you this week? 👀" hinting at an imminent release.

Furthermore, the caption of Giles' post reads, "The wait is almost over. Snapseed 4.0 soon". The teaser doesn't reveal any details about what's coming in the update. However, considering it will be a major revamp, we expect the photo editing app to adopt Google's Material 3 Expressive design language and get a host of new features.

Considering Google has been paving the way for AI-powered editing features on Google Photos, we expect the new Snapseed 4.0 update to boast exciting AI power-ups. It will be interesting to see how Google manages to pitch Snapseed and Google Photos as two distinct editing apps.

For starters, Snapseed 3.0 released on iPhones in February 2026, featuring a revamped UI, a built-in camera with Pro controls, film-stock presets and an AI-driven editing interface. The update also brought improvements to the grid-based library for easier workflow management.

While Google hasn't confirmed the exact launch date, with only two days left until the week comes to a close, Snapseed 4.0 could roll out to Android and iOS users anytime now - maybe tonight. So keep your eyes peeled for an official announcement from the brand.

We can also expect to hear more about the new Snapseed 4.0 update at the Android Show I/O edition 2026 scheduled for May 12, 2026. The show will also highlight all the new features in Android 17 later this year.
