The StepX Neo was unveiled by Shanghai-based AI startup StepFun a couple of months ago as the world's first agentic AI smartphone. However, we didn't have a lot of details then. The phone has finally received a commercial release and we now know all the STEPX Neo specs and price.
STEPX Neo Specifications and Features
From its stellar hardware specs to the bespoke OS built entirely around agentic AI functionality, STEPX Neo challenges everything we've come to expect from the modern smartphone.
STEPX Neo is decked with exceptional hardware. It features a 6.36-inch 1.5K flat OLED display with a 120 Hz refresh rate on the front. There's also a MiniLED display on the back to show the status of AI phone's personal assistant, Amoo. The retro-futuristic rear design appears inspired by Nothing and Apple in equal measure.

The back also hosts a camera plateau that hosts the 50 MP main camera along with an 8 MP ultrawide, while the 32 MP selfie camera lives behind a punch-hole camera cutout on the front.
It's powered by the highly capable Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 chipset, paired with 16 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage. Additionally, there's a 3D Ultrasonic Fingerprint, a separate AI key on the side, and 6 microphones to catch your voice commands.
Here's a quick rundown of STEPX Neo's key specifications:
- 6.36-inch 1.5K flat OLED display, 120 Hz refresh rate
- Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 chip
- 16 GB RAM + 256 GB storage
- 50 MP main camera + 8 MP ultrawide
- 32 MP front camera
- 6,145 mAh battery
- Step AOS 1.0 and Android 16
- 6 microphones, AI key, 3D Ultrasonic Fingerprint sensor
But all this firepower and easy AI accessibility is built around one thing, and that is agentic tasks. To that end, STEPX Neo runs on Step AOS 1.0, which is StepFun's custom OS designed primarily for AI agentic functionality.
The atomic service engine on the STEPX Neo sidesteps traditional app-based use. Instead, it splits the tasks into micro-services which are then recombined and implemented by Amoo, your personal agent on the phone.

Most tasks will be processed on the device, thanks to StepFun's Step Edge AI model. STEPX Neo says the user's data is separated from agentic knowledge, so information is kept private when the cloud model takes over for complex tasks.

STEPX Neo Availability and Price
STEPX Neo is priced at 3,999 Chinese yuan (approx. Rs 57,000), which roughly translates to about Rs 56, 855. However, STEPX Neo is only available in China for the time being. A global launch has not yet been announced.
StepFun has also sweetened the deal for prospective buyers. The first 10,000 customers who meet the company's Amoo Growth Plan will be able to exchange their STEPX Neo for any new smartphone that the company launches in the next five years.
Along with the phone, buyers will also get access to the Step Studio tool and the company's AI models that provide 100 billion tokens per month for a whole year.
It will be interesting to see how this agentic AI-era smartphone performs. But even without all the AI shenanigans, it looks like a solid device, at least on paper. Only time will tell whether or not it can hold up to its promise.
