Summary

  • Xiaomi will make the 17 series flagship smartphones official in China on September 25, 2025 at 7:00 PM CST (5:30 AM IST).
  • The series will bring the compact Xiaomi 17, the Xiaomi 17 Pro and the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max.
  • Expected specs include the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset, Leica-branded 50 MP cameras, rear display and more.

After a flurry of speculations, we finally have the official launch date of the upcoming Xiaomi 17 series smartphones. The brand has revealed the same via Weibo and has confirmed the Xiaomi 17, Xiaomi 17 Pro and Xiaomi 17 Pro Max for China.

The Xiaomi 17 lineup will go official on September 25, 2025 in China at 7:00 PM CST (5:30 AM IST). Xiaomi will host a dedicated Lei Jun Annual Speech event where the founder and CEO himself will make the upcoming trio official.

First look at the Xiaomi 17 design

Apart from the launch date announcement, the confirmation banner has also given us our first look at the compact flagship of the lot, the Xiaomi 17. It has been showcased in a light blue colourway and is immediately distinguishable from the 2024 Xiaomi 15

It has the same flat and compact footprint with rounded edges and a frosted back panel. However, unlike the Xiaomi 15, which had an uninterrupted squircle camera deco at the top, the Xiaomi 17 has opted for a more lens-focused design. It still has the squircle camera island. However, now the individual lenses protrude out and have an outer ring of their own. The design now resembles the 2024 Xiaomi 14T, at least from the camera deco setup.

Other than that, not much is known about the compact offering of the lot at the time of writing. Also, the Xiaomi 17 lineup is shaping up to be the first flagship smartphones to feature the upcoming Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 mobile processor from Qualcomm. They will also become the first smartphones to ship with the recently launched HyperOS 3 based Android 16 update.

The devices are also said to offer 1.5K 120 Hz LTPO OLED displays, with 7,000+mAh batteries inside each device and 100W fast USB-C charging support. Xiaomi is also bringing Leica-branded cameras to the entire lineup. While details about Xiaomi 17 remain scarce, the recent Xiaomi 17 Pro Max camera details leak hinted at an almost similar 50 MP main + 50 MP telephoto + 50 MP ultrawide setup. However, the 17 Pro Max's telephoto could offer a wider aperture.

Speaking of the Pro models, there is now a new Magic Black Screen encased within the edge-to-edge camera deco of the Xiaomi 17 Pro and the debutant Xiaomi 17 Pro Max. The brand teased the Xiaomi 17 Pro secondary display a while back, and it is said to perform a plethora of actions like display clock faces, use the secondary screen as a selfie viewfinder, see incoming calls and messages, navigation at a glance and more.

That said, since the Xiaomi 17 series launch event is just three days away, we won't have to wait long to know the other details and pricing of the smartphones in China. It will be interesting to see how Xiaomi positions the smartphones in India and what else do they have in store for us.
