Summary

  • Xiaomi 17 Pro and Xiaomi 17 Pro Max officially teased with a secondary display at the back.
  • It will be able to perform several actions like display clock faces, act as a viewfinder and show incoming calls.
  • The lineup will also pack the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, Leica-branded 50MP cameras, big batteries and IP68/IP69 ratings.

On September 16, Xiaomi confirmed the launch of its flagship 17 series later this month. Now, the brand has dropped a short teaser video revealing the much-anticipated feature of the Xiaomi 17 Pro and the 17 Pro Max.

The brand took to its official Weibo account to reveal that the Xiaomi 17 Pro and the 17 Pro Max will launch with a rear mini display. Xiaomi is calling this the Magic Black Screen. This makes the upcoming Xiaomi 17 series one of the most interesting launches to look forward to.

While the brand has not revealed much about the second screen, it does appear that it will be used to perform a bunch of actions like display clock faces, use the secondary screen as a selfie viewfinder, a window for incoming calls and messages and more.

Additionally, the implementation here is also neat. The display will make use of the expanded camera island at the top and will cover the entire area, giving an edge-to-edge experience. It will house two of the rear cameras and will accommodate a third lens at the bottom inside a black pill-shaped cutout.

Other than that, the 14-second teaser has not revealed much. The smartphone's brushed aluminium frame was visible for a brief moment, and the side view of the device gave us an idea of the protrusion level of the camera bump.

However, thanks to the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max live images leak earlier this month, we know that Xiaomi is not steering into the "thin and lightweight" direction anytime soon. If the real-life image was any indication, the Xiaomi 17 series smartphones are definitely thick and bulky.

Apart from this, Xiaomi's president, Lu Weibing has already confirmed that the entire Xiaomi 17 lineup will draw their power from the upcoming Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor. The chipset will be further paired with 1.5K 120 Hz LTPO OLED displays. All three smartphones will officially arrive with dual IP68 and IP69 ratings

Since the 17 series will extend the brand's partnership with Leica, expect to see multiple 50 MP lenses including a periscope telephoto camera. With the next Xiaomi flagships, the battery capacities are also set to get a massive bump. Expect to see a 7,000+mAh battery inside each of the smartphone. It could get paired with 100W wired charging and 50W wireless charging.

Thankfully, we won't have to wait long to know since the Xiaomi 17 series is officially launching in the month of September 2025 itself. So, follow Beebom Gadgets closely to not miss out on any updates regarding the upcoming Xiaomi 17 series.
