Xiaomi’s Ultra series smartphones have always been all about photography and top-of-the-line specs. The last year 15 Ultra was built on the same formula and now, the upcoming 17 Ultra will also reportedly carry forward the same mantra.
Xiaomi 17 Ultra is said to bring an upgraded main and telephoto camera system
Tipster Digital Chat Station (DCS) has revealed via Weibo that Xiaomi is looking to add a new large sensor 50 MP main camera to the 17 Ultra, which is said to bring an upgraded in-sensor zoom system. The new camera module is also said to bring lossless focal range coverage for a smooth transition to the periscope camera.
Speaking of the periscope camera, it is said to be a new 200 MP large-bottom sensor lens with support for lossless zoom and multiple focal lengths. The periscope telephoto camera will also double down as a macro lens for close-up shots.
While DCS's post has not exactly mentioned the core specs of these new cameras, it did mention the fact that the two new cameras will offer a higher dynamic range compared to the Xiaomi 15 Ultra. Moreover, since the overall camera system of the smartphone is due for an upgrade, it could also lead to the departure of the rear display which we saw with the Xiaomi 17 Pro and the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max.
We believe so because in response to a user's comment regarding the camera module's design, DCS mentioned that the 17 Ultra will stick to the familiar large circular camera deco. Hence, we believe that just like the 15 Ultra, the 17 Ultra will also bring the same top and centre-aligned rear camera setup. So, it will be really hard for the brand to accommodate a display at the back as well.
Other than that, a previous Xiaomi 17 Ultra camera details leak revealed a quad 50 MP camera setup at the back. However, with the latest leak we believe that the smartphone could feature a 50 MP main, ultra-wide and telephoto lens. But it will bring a new 200 MP periscope camera as well.
Apart from that, we expect the smartphone to be fully specced-out with a WQHD+ LTPO AMOLED display, the latest and greatest Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor, a 7,000+mAh battery, Hyper0S 3 based on Android 16, satellite connectivity and more.
