If your Android phone takes much longer to charge, the charger is not always to blame. Most Android phones now come with battery settings such as Adaptive Charging and charging limits that slow down charging to protect battery health. In fact, Xiaomi phones restrict the wired charging speed by default. So in this guide, I have added Android battery charging tips and a few simple tricks to get the fastest charging speed across Android phones. On that note, let's begin.
Battery Settings on Android to Change for Faster Charging
Every Android skin has charging settings in a different location. So here are the methods for Pixel, Samsung, OnePlus and Xiaomi phones.

Turn On Fast Charging on Samsung Phones
Samsung lets you turn off fast charging and many users switch it off to reduce heat and then forget about it. If the toggle is disabled, your Samsung phone charges at the normal speed even when it's connected to a fast charger.
- Open Settings and go to Battery.
- Here, tap on Charging settings and turn on the Fast charging toggle.
- On older One UI versions, you will find it under Battery and device care > Battery > More battery settings.
- If your phone shows a separate Super fast charging toggle, turn that on as well.

Note that super fast charging only works with a 25W or higher USB PD charger that supports PPS.

Turn Off Adaptive or Optimised Charging on Pixel Phones
Adaptive charging is useful when you charge your phone overnight, but it's not meant for quick charging. It learns your routine and keeps the battery at around 80% before you wake up. So if you plug in late at night and leave early, your phone may not be fully charged. Here is how to disable Adaptive charging on Pixel phones.
- On your Pixel phone, open Settings and move to Battery and charging.
- Here, tap on Charging optimisation and now turn off the toggle.

- In addition, you can turn off Battery health assistance to boost charging speed on Pixel phones.
- To do so, open Settings again and navigate to Battery and charging > Battery health.
- Next, tap on Battery health assistance and disable the toggle. That's it.

To turn off optimised charging on other Android phones, follow the steps below.
- Samsung: Go to Settings > Battery > Battery protection and turn off Sleep time protection.
- OnePlus: Go to Settings > Battery > Battery health and turn off Optimised charging.
- Vivo: Go to Settings > Battery > Battery health and charging and turn off Optimised charging.
If your phone uses a different name for this feature, simply search for "charging" in the Settings app to find it.

Switch to Maximum Speed Charging on Xiaomi Phones
Xiaomi doesn't charge its phones at full speed out of the box. The company limits the wired charging speed by default to keep heat in check and extend the battery life. To change thus, follow the steps below.
- Open Settings and tap on Battery.
- Go to Charging options and select Wired charging mode.
- Now, choose Maximum speed. On some models, this option is called Top speed.

You need the bundled Xiaomi charger and cable to get the full speed. If the option is missing on your phone, your model does not support it.

Remove the Charging Limit
Charging limits stop your phone from charging over 80%. This helps battery health, but it also means you never get a full battery and on Pixel phones, it slows down charging as well.

Since the Android 16 QPR3 update in March 2026, Pixel phones drop the charging power below 1W once the battery reaches around 77% when Limit to 80% is turned on. As a result, it takes much longer to reach even the 80% limit. Here is how to remove the limit on different phones.
- Google Pixel: Go to Settings > Battery > Battery health > Charging optimisation and turn off Limit to 80%.
- Samsung: Go to Settings > Battery > Battery protection and switch from Maximum to Basic. Basic mode charges to 100% and resumes charging only when the battery drops to 95%. You can also disable Battery protection.
- OnePlus: Go to Settings > Battery > Battery health and set the Charging limit to 100%.

General Android Battery Charging Tips
Battery settings can only help if your charger can deliver the rated power. Samsung and Google phones fast charge over USB Power Delivery with PPS, so a regular USB PD charger without PPS will charge them slower.
For example, the Galaxy S26 Ultra needs a 60W PPS charger to hit its rated speed, which Samsung says can fill the battery to 75% in 30 minutes. Similarly, the Pixel 11 Pro charges the fast with a 45W PPS charger. Also, keep your expectations realistic. If a phone is rated up to 33W charging, it will never charge at 67W, no matter which setting you change.

On the other hand, OnePlus, Oppo and Xiaomi use proprietary charging standards like SUPERVOOC and HyperCharge. These phones still charge on a standard USB PD charger, but you need the bundled charger to get the full 80W, 100W or 120W speed.
Next, a cheap cable can also limit your charging speed. USB-C cables come rated for either 3A or 5A and Samsung's 45W super fast charging needs a 5A cable to work. For 60W charging on the Galaxy S26 Ultra, use the cable that comes with Samsung's 60W charger.
Proprietary chargers from OnePlus and Xiaomi also reach the full speed only with their own cable. So if your phone suddenly charges slowly, try changing the cable before you blame the charger.
How to Check if Your Android Phone is Fast Charging
Your Android phone tells you when it's fast charging. Samsung phones show Super fast charging on the lock screen, Pixel phones show Charging rapidly and OnePlus and Xiaomi phones show their own fast charging animations. If you only see a simple "Charging" label, check the charger, cable or settings.
You can also install an app like Ampere or AccuBattery to see the charging current in real time. AccuBattery also helps you check battery health on Android, which is an added bonus.
Priority Charging Could Make Pixel Phones Charge Faster

Google is testing Priority Charging on Pixel phones. It's meant for those times when you have only 15 or 20 minutes to recharge your phone. Once you turn it on, Android pauses app updates and other background tasks, so the phone can speed up charging. That said, Google has not announced it yet, so keep an eye on the Battery settings after a Pixel Drop.
So, these are the Android battery charging tips and settings you can change to charge your phone faster. I keep adaptive charging and the charging limit on for overnight charging and turn them off only when I need a quick recharge before heading out. If you use a Pixel, you can follow our guide and learn to check your Pixel phone's battery health.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q. Does fast charging damage my phone's battery?
No, not in any meaningful way for most people. Fast charging does generate more heat, but phones manage the temperature and slow down charging as the battery is about to reach 100%.
Q. Does Airplane mode make Android phones charge faster?
Yes, but only slightly. It cuts the power your phone uses on modem and wireless connectivity, so more of the power goes into the battery.
Q. Why is my Android phone suddenly charging slowly?
An update may have turned off fast charging toggle or added a charging limit. If not, try a different cable or charger and let the phone cool down.
