Summary

  • In the Geekbench 6 CPU test, the Apple A19 offers 11% faster single-core performance than the A18 and over 9% in multi-core.
  • According to Apple, the A19 delivers 20% faster graphics performance than the A18.
  • Apple A19 and A18 chipsets feature the same 6-core CPU and 5-core GPU configurations.

Apple has introduced the A19 chipset with the standard iPhone 17 model, succeeding last year’s A18 that powered the iPhone 16 models. While both processors are built to deliver fast performance and improved efficiency, the A19 brings notable gains in CPU, GPU, and AI workloads. To find out how much of a leap it really offers, we’ve compared the A19 against the A18 in terms of benchmarks and specifications.

Apple A19 vs A18: Geekbench Score

In the Geekbench 6 CPU test, the latest Apple A19 has scored 3,608 in single-core and 8,810 in multi-core. As for the last year's A18, it achieved 3,254 in single-core and 8,070 in multi-core. Overall, the A19 is about 11% faster than the A18 in single-core performance and over 9% in multi-core.

While both chipsets share the same 6-core CPU setup, thanks to slight increase in frequency (4.26GHz vs 4.05GHz), Apple has squeezed more performance out of the A19. In addition, TSMC's improved process node also helped the A19 deliver slightly better performance.

Apple A19 vs A18: Specs Comparison

The new Apple A19 chip is built on TSMC’s improved 3nm (N3P) process node, while last year's A18 processor is manufactured on TSMC's 2nd-gen 3nm (N3E) process node. Both chipsets share a 6-core CPU and a 5-core GPU setup. However, the A19 GPU comes with Neural Accelerators to perform heavy AI workloads. In addition, Apple says the A19 GPU offers 20% faster graphics performance than the A18.

There is also a new N1 chip inside the A19 which integrates Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6.0 and Thread networking technology. On the modem front, Apple has opted for a Qualcomm Snapdragon 5G modem for the A19 processor. Last year's A18 processor also packed Qualcomm's Snapdragon X75 5G modem.
