Summary

  • ColorOS 16 is the next major Android update for Oppo phones, and it will be based on Android 16.
  • Oppo's Find X8 series will be among the first to receive the update, followed by the X7 series and Reno 14 series.
  • The ColorOS 16 update is expected to arrive in October 2025 and gradually roll out to all the eligible devices by Q1 2025.

ColorOS 15, based on Android 15, rolled out to Oppo smartphones last year, bringing a host of aesthetic changes, new features and improving existing features. With Android 16 out for Pixels and a handful of Samsung devices, it's time for Oppo to release its next ColorOS version based on Android 16. If you're wondering whether your Oppo smartphone will receive the update, here's a list of all the ColorOS 16 supported devices.

ColorOS 16 supported devices

The Reno series was originally promised three years of updates, but the firm upped it to five updates with the Oppo Reno 14 series that launched recently. Oppo's F series is expected to receive three major updates, and the same goes for the firm's budget tablets.

Oppo is already testing Android 16 on the Find X8 series, and it may be nearing its final testing phases, considering the firm has been testing it since May. That said, like OxygenOS 16 on OnePlus phones, we expect Oppo to roll out ColorOS 16 by October 2025 and gradually make it to all the supported devices by Q1 2026.

Oppo is yet to unveil the upcoming features in ColorOS 16. We know a fair bit about what OnePlus is cooking thanks to a leaked OxygenOS 16 build, and since both the UI's share many similarities, here are all the features we expected Oppo to bring to ColorOS 16, besides a handful of Android 16 features.

  • Lock screen widgets from OxygenOS 16 might also arrive on ColorOS 16 as they were spotted in a leaked build earlier last month.
  • More granular customisation options, like seamless AOD transition and new lock screen clock widgets.
  • Advanced Protection mode in Android 16 disables a few Android features that can be exploited by bad actors.
  • Search in Photo picker helps you search for photos from your photo library with ease.
  • Enhanced Predictive back gestures improve the gesture animations and make them available across more regions of Android.
  • Android 16's Live Updates are expected to be integrated in Fluid Cloud, enabling more apps to deliver live notifications around the notch. Users can get more out of the feature that has otherwise been rather barren since its introduction
  • Material 3 Expressive could modify the look of the UI elements across apps, but ColorOS is expected to retain its signature appearance. Like OxygenOS, we expect ColorOS 16 to bring stackable widgets, revamped media player, stacked notifications and enhanced battery charging controls. The firm is yet to unveil all the features and will probably do it soon, so stay tuned as we dive deeper into ColorOS 16 when it's out.
