MediaTek's entry-level Dimensity 6000 series has become crowded and the Dimensity 6360 and Dimensity 6400 are almost similar. Both are affordable 5G chips built on TSMC's 6nm node and both are refreshed versions of the Dimensity 6300 processor. The only real difference is a 0.1GHz bump in peak clock speed. So, we put both chipsets through Geekbench, AnTuTu and other tests to see whether that gap means anything. On that note, let's check out our findings.

First off, in our Dimensity 6400 benchmark run, it recorded 544,835 points in AnTuTu V11, compared to the Dimensity 6360's 515,537 points. That is a lead of around 5.7% for the Dimensity 6360 chip.
If we consider individual scores, the Dimensity 6400 scored 238,287 in the CPU test, which is roughly 14.8% ahead of the Dimensity 6360.
What is noteworthy is that the Dimensity 6400 got a 0 score in the GPU test, as it repeatedly crashed on our test unit. The Tecno Pova Slim 5G has almost no thermal headroom, so it overheated before the test could finish. It means that the Dimensity 6400 would post a higher score on a phone that has better thermal management.
For context, none of these MediaTek chips come close to the Snapdragon 6s Gen 4 benchmark result of 805,947 points in AnTuTu.

Next, in the CPU-bound Geekbench 6 test, the Dimensity 6400 scored 764 in single-core and 1,978 in multi-core. And as we noted in our Dimensity 6360 benchmark, it remained behind with 728 and 1,150 points, respectively.
The single-core gap is marginal, which is in line with the Dimensity 6400's slightly higher 2.5GHz peak clock speed on its Cortex-A76 cores. In practical use, both chipsets will open apps and breeze through routine tasks at the same speed.
The multi-core result is where things get unusual. The Dimensity 6400 is around 72% faster here, which is a huge gap for two chips that share the same 2x Cortex-A76 and 6x Cortex-A55 cores.
A difference this large means there is a device-level tuning and thermal headroom rather than a difference in chipset itself. The Dimensity 6360 inside the OnePlus N6 is more conservative, compared to the Dimensity 6400 inside the Tecno Pova Slim 5G, which seems aggressively tuned.

Now, coming to the 15-minute CPU Throttling Test, the tables turn. The Dimensity 6360 scored a maximum of 190,563 GIPS with a 185,608 average, while the Dimensity 6400 could only reach 178,704 GIPS and settled at a 165,837 average.
In terms of sustained CPU performance, the Dimensity 6360 delivered a 6.6% higher peak performance and it also throttled less. It held 93% of its performance against the Dimensity 6400's 88%.
To put it simply, the Dimensity 6360, despite being tuned conservatively, is the more consistent chip under a sustained CPU load. You may get a short burst of performance spike on the Tecno Pova Slim 5G, but it won't last long. The Dimensity 6360 inside the OnePlus N6 can sustain its performance for longer.

And in the 3DMark Wild Life Extreme Stress Test, the two chips are effectively neck and neck. The Dimensity 6360 got a best loop score of 381, just ahead of the Dimensity 6400's 373.
The lowest loops are almost the same at 370 and 371 and the Dimensity 6400 offers slightly better stability. This is exactly what you would expect since both chips share the same weak Arm Mali-G57 MC2 GPU.
Note that these chips are not built for gaming. For perspective, in our Snapdragon 6 Gen 5 benchmark, we got a best loop score of 1,214 in the same test. It's more than triple what either Dimensity chip can achieve on the GPU front.

Verdict
To sum up, both the Dimensity 6360 and 6400 are almost carbon copies of each other. Both chips run on TSMC's 6nm node, pack two Cortex-A76 cores with six Cortex-A55 cores and use the same Arm Mali-G57 MC2 GPU.
The only meaningful difference is the peak clock speed. The Dimensity 6400 pushes its Cortex-A76 cores to 2.5GHz, whereas the Dimensity 6360 peaks at 2.4GHz. Everything else, from the 108MP camera support to the Release 16 5G modem, is identical.
That said, the Dimensity 6400 is the faster chip on paper and in short bursts, it edges out the Dimensity 6360 across AnTuTu and Geekbench. However, much of the difference we measured comes down to the test devices. The Dimensity 6360, in fact, changes the result under sustained load, offering better thermal stability.
Basically, the chip should not be your deciding factor between these two. Pick the phone with the better display, battery, memory and cooling mechanism because the chipset underneath is near-identical. If your budget allows, the Dimensity 7400 benchmark numbers show a much more capable chip so check it out.
For anyone looking for phones under Rs 20,000 bracket, either of these chipsets will cover the day-to-day usage. Just keep your gaming and heavy-multitasking tasks in check.
