Nothing Phone 4b vs Phone 3a Lite Comparison: Which One to Buy?

The Nothing Phone 4b arrives as the latest entry-level phone in Nothing's lineup, taking over the Nothing Phone 3a Lite that launched in 2025. But on paper, both phones appear almost identical in specifications and pricing, leaving us wondering which phone to buy. Let us clear the doubts for you in this Nothing Phone 4b vs Nothing Phone 3a Lite comparison. 

Nothing Phone 4b vs Phone 3a Lite: Design

• Nothing Phone 3a Lite features a plastic frame with a transparent glass back
• The Phone 4b has a complete plastic construction with a transparent cutout at the top
• While Phone 4b features the new Glyph bar layout, the Phone 3a Lite has a single Glyph dot

Build-wise, the Nothing Phone 3a Lite sports a see-through glass back with a plastic frame. It is essentially a redesigned CMF Phone 2 Pro, and the design makes that clear: it is lighter and slimmer than the Phone 4b.

In comparison, the Nothing Phone 4b is entirely made up of plastic with a transparent window at the top. Its design resembles the Nothing Phone 4a Pro but lacks the premium build quality. 

The Phone 3a Lite is protected by Panda glass on the front and back and has an IP54 rating for dust and water protection. Meanwhile, the Phone 4b has AGC Dragontrail 2 glass on the front and an IP64 rating.

Both phones feature Nothing's Glyph lights, but the Phone 3a Lite comes with a single Glyph dot that is only good for notifications. While the Phone 4b gets the new Glyph bar with a video indicator, also seen on the Phone 4a launched earlier this year. In terms of design, Nothing Phone 4b wins for me. 

Nothing Phone 4b vs Phone 3a Lite: Display

• The Phone 3a Lite gets brighter at 3,000 nits but limited to a single speaker only
• Meanwhile, the Phone 4b gets a loud stereo speaker setup but dimmer screen brightness

Both the Nothing Phone 4b and Phone 3a Lite use a 6.77-inch Full HD+ AMOLED panel with a 120Hz refresh rate, and on paper, the sizes and resolutions are identical. Both have a punch-hole screen with an in-display fingerprint scanner, and neither supports HDR playback on Netflix.

But there is some difference in key areas. Mainly, the Phone 4b maxes out at 2,000 nits of peak brightness, which is less than the 3,000 nits peak on the Phone 3a Lite.

The Phone 4b also has a visible chin at the bottom, which is not present on the older device. In real-world usage, I would prefer the Phone 3a Lite's display any day.

• The Phone 4b is packing the Snapdragon 6 Gen 4 processor
• Nothing Phone 3a Lite is powered by MediaTek Dimensity 7300 Pro
• Both devices come with LPDDR4X RAM and UFS 2.2 storage type

Hardware is where the differences start to become obvious. The Nothing Phone 4b is running on a Snapdragon 6 Gen 4 processor, while the Nothing Phone 3a Lite comes with a Mediatek Dimensity 7300 Pro chipset. In benchmarks, the Phone 4b clearly ranks better with higher scores. 

Since these are budget processors, neither can be called the best gaming phone in its segment. But they should be fine for regular usage. Storage is another place where we see a tie, as both phones sport LPDDR4X RAM and UFS 2.2 storage. 

Nothing Phone 4b vs Phone 3a Lite: Software

• Nothing Phone 4b comes with the latest NothingOS 4.1 based on Android 16
• In comparison, the Nothing Phone 3a Lite launched with NothingOS 3.5 based on Android 15
• The Phone 4b will receive Android 19, while Phone 3a Lite will be supported till Android 18

Software is where the newer Phone 4b takes the lead. It ships with Nothing OS 4 based on Android 16, while the Phone 3a Lite arrived with the older Nothing OS 3.5 based on Android 15. While it has received the latest update, its support will end one year before the Phone 4b. 

As expected, NothingOS comes with a stock Android experience that many tech enthusiasts will admire. However, both phones come with a few bloatware apps; namely – Instagram and Facebook. 

Nothing Phone 4b vs Phone 3a Lite: Camera 

• Nothing Phone 3a Lite and Phone 4b, both feature dual 50 MP main and 8 MP ultrawide lenses
• The Phone 3a Lite also has an additional 2 MP depth camera
• There is a 16 MP selfie camera seen on both of these devices

Camera hardware is fairly close between the two. The Phone 3a Lite uses a 50 MP main, an 8 MP ultrawide, and a 2 MP depth sensor, paired with a 16 MP front camera.

The Phone 4b simplifies this setup with just a 50 MP + 8 MP dual-camera setup but matches the Phone 3a Lite with the same 16 MP selfie camera.

In our Nothing Phone 3a Lite review, we saw that it captures decent images during daylight but fumbles at nighttime, but the Phone 4b works reasonably well in both situations.

Given the similar cameras, the video quality also remains identical, with 4K @ 30 FPS recording from the main and 1080p recording from both the ultrawide and selfie cameras.

Nothing Phone 4b vs Phone 3a Lite: Battery

The Phone 4b has the clear edge here. It packs a 6,000mAh battery. This is a meaningful upgrade from the 5,000mAh cell on the Phone 3a Lite.

Charging speed is identical between the two; both support 33W wired charging, so the Phone 4b simply offers more capacity without any charging speed trade-off in this comparison.

Nothing Phone 4b vs Phone 3a Lite: Which One Should You Buy?  

A few months back, the Nothing Phone 3a Lite would make a perfect fit for anyone with a tight budget. But after the recent price hike, both devices stand at an equal price range. Seeing there is a minimal price gap between the two, the Nothing Phone 4b becomes the obvious pick. 

It has a slight edge in performance, a bigger battery, and an extra year of software support without downgrading the display and camera quality. This makes the Phone 4b one of the best phones under Rs 40,000 for most conscious buyers, besides the OnePlus Nord CE 6.
