The e-commerce platform is offering massive discounts on a handful of iPhones, with the iPhone 16 Pro bagging the spotlight. But if you’re wondering whether you should get last year’s iPhone 16 Pro over the latest iPhone 17, this guide should clear your confusion.

Apple iPhone 17 and iPhone 16 Pro Deals in Flipkart Big Billion Days sale

The iPhone 16 Pro will be available for a cut-throat price of just Rs 74,900 during Flipkart’s Big Billion Days 2025 sale. On top of this, the e-commerce platform is offering an additional Rs 5,000 discount for Axis and ICICI bank credit card users. This will essentially bring down the price of iPhone 16 Pro to just Rs 69,900, that’s a massive 38% off on its regular price of Rs 1,12,900.

Apple’s latest iPhone 17, on the other hand, is also getting discounts on select cards. Both Flipkart and Amazon are providing Rs 5,000 discount for SBI and ICICI bank credit cards. Apple’s official India store is offering Rs 5,000 instant cashback on American Express, ICICI and Axis bank cards as well. So, interested buyers will be able to bag the iPhone 17 for as low as Rs 77,900, that’s 6% off on its launch price of Rs 82,900.

iPhone 16 Pro vs iPhone 17: Which iPhone should you buy?

The aforementioned deals put the latest iPhone 17 in direct competition with last year’s iPhone 16 Pro. So, for a difference of just Rs 8,000, which iPhone is the better deal during the sales? Let us break it down for you.

iPhone 17 display is brighter

The displays on both the iPhones are identical, thanks to Apple incorporating 120Hz ProMotion panels on this year’s non-Pro models. Both phones feature a 6.3-inch Super Retina XDR OLED, but the iPhone 17 gets the edge over the 16 Pro as it offers a brighter screen at 3,000 nits (vs 2,000 nits on the iPhone 16 Pro).

iPhone 16 Pro has a more durable Titanium chassis

Design-wise, both phones have different strengths. The iPhone 16 Pro comes with a premium Titanium build, while the iPhone 17 comes with a more durable Ceramic Shield 2 on the front. So, it all depends on what you prefer and consider as an upgrade over the other.

iPhone 17's Apple A19 chip is slightly faster

On the performance front, the iPhone 17 equips the newer Apple A19 chip, whereas the iPhone 16 Pro is powered by the year-old A18 Pro processor. As you can decipher from our Apple A19 vs A18 Pro benchmarks, there isn’t a vast difference between the two chipsets.

Early testing suggests that the Apple A19 is marginally faster (4%) than the A18 Pro in CPU. That said, the newer SoC does feature Neural Accelerators that should aid heavier AI workloads.

iPhone 16 Pro has an additional telephoto camera

Apple upgraded the camera module on the non-Pro models of the iPhone 17 series with 48 MP ultra-wide sensor alongside the standard 48 MP main camera.

Being a “Pro”, the iPhone 16 Pro has a more versatile camera system that features an additional 12 MP periscope telephoto lens with 5x optical zoom. This camera also offers better videography with support for ProRes video and up to 120 fps of frame rate.

iPhone 17 gets more battery life with quicker charging

On the battery front, the iPhone 17 is officially rated to achieve up to 30 hours of video playback, compared to the iPhone 16 Pro (up to 27 hours).

While this difference is minute, this year’s model also supports a faster 40W charging. Apple claims the newer iPhone will charge to 50% in 20 minutes, which is a bump over the 30W charging on the iPhone 16 Pro.

iPhone 17 will support one more year of updates

Apple has only recently launched the iPhone 17 models. That means, the latest iPhone will get at least six years of software updates throughout its life cycle. So, if Apple sticks to its current naming scheme, the iPhone 17 will remain supported at least until iOS 32

Since the iPhone 16 Pro is now a year old, and it came running iOS 18, it has surpassed one whole year of its supported update policy. So, judging my Apple's history, the last year's model should be supported for five more years and get software updates until iOS 31

iPhone 17's base model offers larger storage capacity

Lastly, the iPhone 17 also gets a minor advantage over the iPhone 16 Pro in terms of storage. The base model of the latest iPhone 17 starts at 256 GB, while the 16 Pro that’s essentially available for Rs 69,900 will only offer 128 GB.

Users who wish to upgrade to the 256 GB version of the 16 Pro will have to pay up Rs 79,900, which puts it on level with the iPhone 17 in terms of price.

Verdict: iPhone 17 is a clear winner

This brings us to the main question – should you get the iPhone 16 Pro over the iPhone 17 in Flipkart Big Billion Days sale? Our answer is – No.
