Summary

  • Apple has made the iPhone 17 series official with the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro and the iPhone 17 Pro max.
  • The lineup is equipped with OLED displays, up to A19 Pro chipset and 48 MP cameras.
  • The iPhone 17 series starts from Rs 82,900 and goes up to Rs 2,29,900.

After months of leaks and teasers, the Apple iPhone 17 series is finally official globally and in India. The latest addition to the iPhone family brings the Apple A19 and A19 Pro chipsets, a refreshed design and the Super Retina XDR OLED display. Here's a rundown of the complete specifications, pricing and availability details of the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro and the iPhone 17 Pro Max.

iPhone 17 Finally Ditches 60 Hz and Embraces a 120 Hz Display

Starting with the standard iPhone 17, as always, this is the compact offering of the lot. It brings the same Super Retina XDR OLED display with HDR, True Tone and up to 3,000 nits of peak brightness as its predecessor. However, the display size has gone up to 6.3 inches, up from the iPhone 16's 6.1-inch screen and it packs a resolution of 2622 x 1206 pixels.

Most importantly, for the first time ever, the standard iPhone 17's display sees a 120 Hz refresh rate as well. Here as well, Apple is using Ceramic Shield 2 to protect the panel and retaining an IP68 rating.

Design-wise, the smartphone bears the signature iPhone 16 look with two vertical rear cameras positioned in a pill-shaped camera bump. It features a matte glass back panel along with 7.80mm brushed aluminium mid-frames. The device is also lightweight at 177 grams.

Powering the device is the latest Apple-made A19 processor compared to the A18 in the iPhone 16. It is also a 6-core SoC with a 3 nm architecture and a 16‑core Neural Engine. The device is paired with up to 512 GB of storage.

It ships with the latest iOS 26 update with Liquid Glass redesign and brings several Apple Intelligence features like Genmoji, Imagen, AI Writing Tools and more.

The chipset is complemented with a decent battery upgrade, which Apple claims can support up to 30 hours of video playback on a single charge. That's quite the upgrade over the iPhone 16's 22-hour rated video playback.

In terms of charging, Apple promises up to 50% charge in 30 minutes with a 30W adapter or higher paired with a MagSafe Charger.

Now, talking about the cameras, the iPhone 17 brings a 48 MP main camera with an f/1.6 aperture and is capable of 2x telephoto shots. It is paired with a 12 MP ultra-wide-angle lens with 120° field of view and macro photography support.

Compared to the iPhone 16, the rear cameras bear no change. However, the iPhone 17 now features a 18 MP selfie camera, unlike the 12 MP on the 16. It brings Auto Focus with Focus Pixels and lossless cropping. Both the front and the back can shoot up to 4K @ 60 FPS Dolby Atmos videos.

Apart from this, similar to the iPhone 16, the newly launched smartphone also gets support for Face ID, stereo speakers, UWB chip with spatial awareness, Apple N1 wireless networking chip, Thread networking technology, GPS, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6 and more.

iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max Get Vapour Chamber Cooling and 48 MP Periscope Telephoto

Coming to the iPhone 17 Pro and the iPhone 17 Pro Max, both smartphones bring a Super Retina XDR LTPO OLED 120 Hz ProMotion display with up to 3,000 nits of peak brightness (identical to the iPhone 16 Pros).

And just like the iPhone 17, here as well, the panel is protected by Ceramic Shield 2. The only difference between the two is the screen size, where the 17 Pro brings a 6.3-inch display and the 17 Pro Max gets a large 6.9-inch screen.

The biggest differentiating factor this time around is the design of the iPhone 17 Pros. Both devices bring the biggest design refresh since 2019. The iPhone 17 Pro and the 17 Pro Max now feature a somewhat two-tone design with an aluminium frame and a back that is half glass and half aluminium instead of all glass.

Even the camera bump is now redesigned with a large rectangular module, which expands throughout the top section of the smartphone. This is a noticeable shift from the squircle module we saw till the iPhone 16 Pro and the iPhone 16 Pro Max.

It still follows the same lens arrangement with two of the cameras arranged vertically on top of one another, while the third camera is placed on the side, forming the shape of a "triangle". However, the LED flash and the LiDAR sensor are now moved to the extreme right of the camera island. Even the Apple logo is now off-centre, with it being placed lower than the previous generation models.

This new design is said to improve durability since the smartphones are now essentially an aluminium sandwich. They also now feature the 5G antenna lines around the camera bump, which is said to improve connectivity.

Along with a new design, the iPhone 17 Pros also bring a new "Pro" chipset. The devices are now powered by the latest Apple A19 Pro processor (A18 Pro in the iPhone 16 Pro models). It is built on TSMC's second-generation 3nm process and brings the same 6-core CPU with a 6-core GPU setup.

Both phones feature a new vapour chamber cooling technology to help the smartphones achieve better sustained performance than the iPhone 16 Pros.

Here as well, both phones ship with iOS 26 out of the box with Liquid Glass visual overhaul, Live Translation support, lock screen customisation and more.

Now, coming to the cameras, this is another area where the iPhone 17 Pros have received a noteworthy upgrade. The iPhone 17 Pro and the iPhone 17 Pro Max are the first iPhones to bring a triple 48 MP rear camera setup.

Alongside the 48 MP main camera and the 48 MP ultra-wide lens, the telephoto sensor has been upgraded to a 48 MP unit, up from the 12 MP sensor on the iPhone 16 Pros. It brings 3.5x optical zoom with variable zoom support of 5x to 8x. The entire setup is capable of recording 8K footage.

Additionally, just like the iPhone 17, the 17 Pro models are also getting the 18 MP selfie camera treatment. Both phones can also record 4K Dolby Atmos videos at 30 FPS.

Talking about the device's battery and charging, while the exact figures are not known at the time of writing, the iPhone 17 Pro Max features the biggest battery in the family. It is also the biggest battery in an iPhone yet.

Both smartphones now feature 35W USB-C charging (25W on the iPhone 16 Pros) and 25W Qi 2.2 MagSafe wireless charging. Additionally, the iPhone 17 Pro and the 17 Pro Max are the first iPhones to bring reverse wireless charging support.
