Summary

  • In the Geekbench test, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 posts 75% faster performance than the Dimensity 9400 in single-core tasks
  • As for multi-core workloads, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 delivers 65% stronger performance.
  • The 8 Elite Gen 5 packs the 3rd-gen Oryon CPU while the Dimensity 9400 features Arm's older Cortex CPU cores.

At the Snapdragon Summit 2025, Qualcomm introduced the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, its flagship processor for Android phones. It brings the 3rd-gen Oryon CPU and the Adreno 840 GPU. That said, how does it stack up against MediaTek's 2024 flagship, the Dimensity 9400? To answer that, we have compared the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 and Dimensity 9400 on Geekbench and other benchmarks.

Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 vs Dimensity 9400: Geekbench Score

Geekbench 6 CPU
Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 (Leaked)
Dimensity 9400
Single-core
3,831
2,195
Multi-core
11,525
6,979

In a leaked Geekbench listing, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, running on the Xiaomi 17 Pro, achieved 3,831 points in single-core and 11,515 in multi-core. Meanwhile, MediaTek's Dimensity 9400 scored 2,195 in single-core and 6,979 in multi-core.

Overall, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 delivers about 75% faster performance in single-core tasks and about 65% faster performance in multi-core workloads. Since the Dimensity 9400 packs older Arm Cortex CPU cores with a peak frequency of 3.63GHz, it can't compete with the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 which features powerful 3rd-gen Oryon CPU cores.

Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 vs Dimensity 9400: Specs Comparison

The latest Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 is manufactured on TSMC's improved 3nm (N3P) process node while the Dimensity 9400 is built on TSMC's last-gen 3nm (N3E) node.
