The Android Show 2026 I/O Edition contained lots of new Android announcements and surprise additions to the upcoming Android 17 release. Among those announcements was a feature called "Create My Widget". Powered by Gemini Intelligence, the feature will let users create their own widgets with simple prompts.
Create My Widget Is Coming to Android 17
Google introduced the Create My Widget as one of the Gemini Intelligence features during its Android Show briefing yesterday. Google showed off what it can do in a demo in which a user created a new widget on the home screen using Gemini Intelligence and a simple prompt, "Countdown to my first marathon".

Gemini Intelligence will then create the widget and ask the user if this is what they wanted. Users can then choose to add the widget to their homescreen or tap on the Edit button to make further changes and personalisations.
While the demo consisted of Google creating a widget by describing it, the feature will also give users options to choose from different categories. For starters, users can combine different widgets, create Weather alerts, a world clock, a curated Daily Brief, and a widget to show important dates and Market performance.

As for when Create My Widget will be available on Android, the feature is expected to roll out as part of the massive Android 17 features list expected to arrive in a few months. The ability to create widgets will be initially limited to Google Pixel and Samsung Galaxy smartphones.
However, Google plans to expand the tool later in 2026 to more Android smartphones, Wear OS smartwatches, Android Auto and its newly announced GoogleBook laptops. More information about the same should be revealed as we inch closer to Android 17's launch, so stay tuned.
