Apple's iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max are still a couple of months away, but leaks have been overflowing as of late. After a massive data breach at Tata Electronics leaked iPhone 18 Pro files, a new leak now suggests both models could pack larger batteries. In fact, the iPhone 18 Pro Max could potentially cross the 5,000mAh mark for the first time.

iPhone 18 Pro Max Could Pack Apple's Largest Battery Yet

According to a fresh leak from tipster Mai Zijun on Weibo, the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max will not only be noticeably heavier but could also pack significantly larger batteries. Besides, the tipster has also leaked the battery units in their full glory.

Standing true to the previous iPhone 18 Pro Max battery leaks, the smartphone's eSIM variant could boast a 5,425mAh battery. Here's a breakdown and comparison of the capacities of both SIM and eSIM variants.

ModeliPhone 17 seriesiPhone 18 seriesChange %
Pro Max Model (SIM)4,823mAh5,235mAh+412 mAh (+9%)
Pro Max Model (eSIM)5,088mAh5,425mAh+337mAh (+7%)
Pro Model (Physical SIM)3,988mAh4,056mAh+68mAh (+2%)
Pro Model (eSIM)4,252mAh4,288mAh+36mAh (+1%)

It's quite interesting to see that despite the presence of a physical SIM card, the change in capacity is higher in the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max's physical SIM variant, with a 9% change.

While the change in the Pro variant is negligible, the iPhone 18 Pro Max should see a pretty clear difference in real-world usage. Recently, we also got to see iPhone 18 Pro CT scans pointing to a larger Vapour Chamber, suggesting better cooling and the more efficient Apple A20 Pro chipset.

However, all the extra power comes with added physical bulk. Since Apple still isn't using Silicon Carbon batteries, the iPhone 18 Pro may weigh 210 grams (vs the iPhone 17 Pro's 217 grams). The iPhone 17 Pro Max, on the other hand, could weigh around 242 grams (up from 233 grams).

Mai Zijun claims the heft doesn't just come from larger batteries but also from a noticeably larger camera module and the massive vapour chamber. Interestingly, recent iPhone 18 Pro real-life images leak did not point to a larger camera module.

If the numbers hold, the 5,425mAh battery in the iPhone 18 Pro Max would be the largest battery ever shipped inside an iPhone. Even more so than the 5,000mAh battery capacities that Samsung's Ultra flagships have refused to change for over half a decade at this point. It should be interesting to see how the battery fares in real-life, so stay tuned.
