The iPhone Air was poorly received due to the limitations that came with its sleek form factor. However, the latest information suggests Apple is working on fixing them in the upcoming, rumoured successor, the iPhone Air 2.
Apple Could Make the iPhone Air 2 Thinner and More Practical
According to fresh industry leaks that surfaced on the Korean Naver forum, the iPhone Air 2 will shave an additional 0.4 mm off the chassis. This would mean that it would end up measuring just 5.2 mm in thickness (vs 5.6 mm on the iPhone Air).

To maintain the structural integrity at this extreme slimness, Apple is reportedly sticking to the Titanium frame. Surprisingly, despite the slimmer chassis, the battery capacity could be notably bumped to 3,500mAh (vs 3,149mAh on the iPhone Air).
The leaks also suggest the Air 2 could address the biggest criticism of the first generation – the camera setup. The phone could feature a dual-camera setup with a 48 MP primary wide sensor and a 48 MP ultrawide lens to pack in a larger field of view.
Additionally, the front display could also receive the same upgrade as the iPhone 18 Pro series this year. That is, a smaller Dynamic Island by relocating the Face ID hardware beneath the OLED display.

Under the hood, the iPhone Air 2 could run the flagship Apple A20 Pro chipset, working with Apple's in-house C2 modem in some regions. It could also bring an upgraded N2 wireless chip for better efficiency, which could in turn help extend the overall screen-on time of the phone.
The iPhone Air 2 launch is expected alongside the standard iPhone 18 and iPhone 18e smartphones sometime in Spring 2027. More information about the core specifications of these smartphones should surface as we inch closer to launch, so stay tuned.
