Apple's September 9 Surprise and Shine event is barely a week away and ahead of it, a new leak suggests that the Apple Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4 smartwatches could feature two key health upgrades.

Apple Watch Series 12 Could Get Always-on Heart Rate Tracking Support

According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, Apple is reportedly testing the ability for the heart-rate sensor inside the Apple Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4 to record all day, rather than only during workouts and at intermittent intervals throughout the day, which is how it currently works.

If this happens, it will be a major shift in health tracking via Apple Watch and will bring the wearable on par with other health wearables on the market. With 24/7 heart rate monitoring, the Cupertino brand will be able to better monitor heart rate data and provide accurate readings, as well as precisely predict major heart issues ahead of time.

Gurman also reports Apple is revamping its fitness and health apps to show considerably more wellness-related metrics, bringing them on par with the likes of the Whoop and Oura bands. This ties in to the 24/7 heart rate tracking data, since metrics like recovery scores, strain and sleep quality analysis all depend on continuous heart rate data.

Hence, to enable comprehensive health and fitness data display, Apple Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4 could come with 24/7 heart rate tracking support.

Apple Watch Series 12 Could Feature Ceramic Finish

Aside from the health changes, Gurman has also reported that a new Ceramic Apple Watch Series 12 will launch next week. The Cupertino brand is reportedly testing two finishes, a traditional white and a dark grey option. There will also reportedly be many new band colours and configurations.

As for a visual overhaul, Gurman says Apple is pushing for a significant redesign of the Apple Watch in 2027 or in 2028. This indicates either the Series 13 or the Series 14 smartwatch. The current design language has been in place since the Apple Watch Series 10 in 2024.

That said, the new Apple Watches are expected to debut next week alongside the iPhone 18 Pro series and the foldable iPhone Ultra. As far as pricing goes, the Apple Watch Series 11 and Ultra 3 launched in India, starting from Rs 46,900. However, with the RAM crisis ongoing, the prices of the Series 12 and Ultra 4 Apple Watches might go up.
