Fresh off the launch of its first two smartphones, Boltt Ace 5G and Evo, the brand has detailed its software commitment to the phones.

Boltt Lays Down Software Support for Ace 5G and Evo

Software longevity has become a primary concern in the budget phone market due to the ongoing RAM crisis, so Boltt is stepping up its post-sale support. The brand has released a document highlighting its software update policy, which outlines the following:

  • Both the Boltt Ace 5G and Evo will receive three years of major Android updates.
  • The brand will provide Quarterly security patches for four years.
  • Routine security maintenance will be pushed out to users at least once every quarter.
  • If a high-priority threat emerges outside of the standard update window, Boltt will deploy ad hoc critical patches to keep users protected.

Boltt’s Founder and CEO, Arnav Kishore, noted that the initiative is built around earning consumer trust. He emphasised that a smartphone's value should not simply end on the day it is bought.

It's worth noting that the exact rollout timings for these updates will depend on Google's certification processes and the chipset compatibility. However, for those planning to grab one of these phones and worried about software support, this is indeed very good news.

In fact, the Ace 5G and Boltt Evo are currently the only sub-Rs 12,000 smartphones with support for three years of software updates. Most brands in the segment limit it to one or two at most. It should be interesting to see if the three-year promise can act as an anchor to push these phones to a wider audience.
