Google is working on bringing a much-needed overhaul to how Pixel users customise their phones. A recent teardown of the latest Android 17 QPR Beta reveals changes coming to the lock screen customisation menu.

First unearthed by Android Authority in the latest Android 17 QPR3 Beta 1 update, the upcoming lock screen customisations menu revamp will include quick-access tabs for changing wallpapers on Google Pixel phones. Additionally, it will incorporate options to quickly adjust system colours, swap clock style and manage widgets.

However, the most intriguing addition could arrive in the form of a new category called "media". While the current beta doesn't reveal what this button does, it's highly likely that it may grant users more granular control over how the media player appears when the phone is locked.

The current Pixel customisation page has been in dire need of an upgrade. As of writing this, Pixel users have to swipe between the Home and Lock screen tabs, digging through a disappointing list of shortcuts and settings to tweak their display.

The upcoming changes should help streamline the process by introducing a clean, unified row of dedicated buttons at the bottom of the screens. They can add more character to Pixel's personalisation experience.

With other Android counterparts coming up with innovative customisation ideas, Google clearly doesn't want to be left out. For those unaware, a Harry Potter Theme pack rolled out for Pixel phones recently.

While details about the upcoming additions are scarce, we should see more information surface as we inch closer to Android 17 QPR2 Beta 3's stable release. The stable version could arrive sometime in December 2026 on the Google Pixel 6a and newer Pixel phones.
