Back in January 2026, Google made Gemini more personal with a new Personal Intelligence update to the AI assistant. However, the update was limited to users in the USA only. Now, Google is expanding access to Personal Intelligence by bringing contextual responses to users in India via improved app integration.

Gemini Personal Intelligence Now Live in India

The latest Google India blog post has announced the gradual rollout of Personal Intelligence to Google Gemini. It now allows users to securely connect their existing GMS (Google Mobile Services) accounts,  such as Google Photos, YouTube, Gmail, Drive, and more, to Gemini for personalised search results.

By doing this, users can unlock Gemini's core reasoning capabilities and fine-tune the data based on their GMS account details. Allowing Gemini to access Google Accounts data will help users seek more context-aware Gemini responses like Gmail references, context from Photos, local map screenshots, travel itinerary and more. Personal Intelligence helps Gemini synthesise text, photos and video data.

It is important to note that although Personal Intelligence relies heavily on user data, Google has confirmed Gemini is not trained on this data. The model is trained on limited data, such as specific user prompts and the subsequent AI responses. The training data filters out personal details and only keeps track of Gemini's general responses to better tune the AI to the user's needs.

Furthermore, to ensure user safety, Personal Intelligence is turned off by default. It offers an opt-in design wherein a user can turn the feature on and off based on convenience and needs. The connected data is stored locally in Google's servers across India and is protected from third-party sharing.

That said, the Gemini Personal Intelligence feature is currently only live for Google AI Pro and Google AI Ultra plan holders in India. This should ideally also include those users who got free Google AI Pro with Jio.

Google has confirmed expansion to free users in the coming weeks. However, do note that Personal Intelligence will operate with limited capacity for non-pro and non-ultra users.
