Huawei has officially confirmed the date for its next major launch event. The "HarmonyOS 7 | Huawei Mate XT 2 and All-Scenario New Product Launch Event" will take place on September 7, 2026, at 14:30 CST (or 12:00 PM IST) in China.
The event will see the debut of Huawei's next tri-fold and the consumer rollout of the HarmonyOS 7 update.
Huawei Mate XT 2 Tri-Fold Specifications (Expected)
The Huawei Mate XT 2 tri-fold will be a successor to the Huawei Mate XT, launched way back in 2024. Now, while the brand has not shared official specifications of the phone yet, leaks have managed to reveal much.
For instance, the tri-fold is expected to be powered by a Kirin 9050 Pro chipset, with a strong emphasis on on-device AI. Durability could be another area where the upcoming phone will shine, as reports claim a redesigned hinge mechanism to better handle folding and unfolding stress and reduce the visible crease.
The display of the Huawei Mate XT 2 could be made out of UFG (ultra-thin flexible glass), like the display on the Oppo Find N6 and the Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold. However, it is unclear if the Mate XT 2 will retain the first-gen's "zigzag" opening mechanism or opt for a "Z" pattern like the Galaxy Z TriFold.
Aside from that, the phone is expected to arrive in Mystic Black, Auspicious Red and Crimson Purple colour options. Leaks have also suggested UWB support and satellite communication for the Huawei Mate XT 2 tri-fold.

HarmonyOS 7 Update: What to Expect?
As for Huawei's next big software update, HarmonyOS 7 launched in China back in June 2026. However, the upcoming event will reveal all the details about the HarmonyOS 7 update as well as the official consumer rollout roadmap.
A major highlight of the HarmonyOS 7 update is the new glass-like interface elements across the UI, which are a direct inspiration from Apple's Liquid Glass design for iOS 26. Huawei has also added new 3D spatial effects that create a greater sense of depth across the lock screen and user interface, giving the software a more modern and dynamic appearance.
Beyond aesthetics, HarmonyOS 7 features Huawei's Intelligent Agent Framework 2.0, enabling AI agents to understand better and execute user requests across apps and services. The service also comes with developer-first agentic AI tools to help them scale and build AI-powered experiences within the HarmonyOS ecosystem.
However, next month's showcase will be interesting since the Huawei Mate XT 2 tri-fold will become the first phone to ship with HarmonyOS 7 out of the box. Until now, most of the new software has been demonstrated on regular phones.
A tri-fold puts considerably more pressure on the software, meaning HarmonyOS 7 will need to handle multiple windows, resize apps across three different screen layouts, and make the transitions between folded and unfolded states feel seamless and intuitive.
That said, Huawei will not limit the September 2 event to just these two announcements. The brand will also debut the FreeBuds 7 TWS earbuds and could also reveal other products, including updates on the next Pura series smartphones. So, stay tuned.
