Huawei has officially unveiled HarmonyOS 7 at its Huawei Developer Conference (HDC) 2026, bringing a refreshed design, new AI features, stronger security protections and performance improvements to its in-house OS.
HarmonyOS 7 Embraces Glass-like Aesthetics All Over
A major highlight of the update is the new visual experience. HarmonyOS 7 introduces a range of glass-like interface elements, including translucent buttons, cards, sliders and system controls. Well, it appears Apple's Liquid Glass redesign, first introduced with iOS 26, is inspiring almost every other Android OS out there.

Additionally, Huawei has also added new 3D spatial effects that create a greater sense of depth across the lock screen and user interface, giving the software a more modern and dynamic appearance.
The company takes AI seriously as well, with the HarmonyOS Intelligent Agent Framework 2.0. Huawei says the upgraded framework enables AI agents to understand better and execute user requests across apps and services, while offering developers new tools to build AI-powered experiences within the HarmonyOS ecosystem.

Beyond aesthetics and AI, HarmonyOS 7 claims to deliver smoother performance and improved efficiency on Huawei phones, compared to previous versions. The company says the software has been optimised to reduce resource consumption while improving overall responsiveness, resulting in faster and more fluid day-to-day usage.
Security is another key focus of the HarmonyOS 7 update, and it introduces six new anti-fraud features. These features are designed to help users identify scam calls, malicious links, fake websites and other common forms of digital fraud.

Huawei has already opened the HarmonyOS 7 developer beta program, with a wider rollout expected in the coming months. The new OS is expected to debut on upcoming Huawei flagship devices before gradually expanding to other products across the company's wide ecosystem.
